Usually we do these last update of the month, but we've got something special for the next update so....

The Pokemon battles themselves are a big part of the franchise and it's something I really wasn't sure how to do for this series. It needed to show the battles while still keeping them sort of out-of-the-way and most importantly very easy to draw. This was kinda done as a "pilot" to the battles and think it worked out pretty nice. This particular battle was kept very simple just to test the formatting, next one'll have more to it but still be on the simple-side. Really hope people like this format, put entirely too much thought into it.

A lot of the formatting came from Pokemon Stadium, especially the look of the team-brackets, "WIN/LOSE" font, and X over the KOed Pokemon. In addition to that we had the font on the attacks being taken directly from the DS games!

Lance's pose in the first panel is based on his original sprite from way back in Red/Blue, and his loss-pose in the last panel is his "loss" reaction in Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee. Disappointed but clapping his hands politely. He's too mature to be a sore loser, after all. .... Unlike Lucy, apparently. Lucy's based off the Preschooler class from X/Y, and her pose in the first panel is based off the class's shot from that game.

If you're curious about Lance's win/loss record, his 101 wins are from his time as Champion. His five (now six) losses are, in order, Blue, Red, Gold/Ethan, Leon and Diantha. .... You'll notice that that's a bit of a hodge-podge of continuity, with the first three being canonical losses in the games and the last two being from the anime, but this series is gonna be borrowing from both. An anime-exclusive character is already primed to show up soon. Just like the format for these battles, we're borrowing a little from everywhere.

So yeah, REALLY hope everyone likes, was very nervous on this format when first devised.
