"Mai the Wrongdoer", Chapter II and a little vacation. (Patreon)
Content
Okay, I've finally finished the first chapter and I must say - this was hell of a ride. Once again, working in this style reqires lots of time and effort, especially when you are alone.
With this said, I must announce that
I'll be taking a 2 months off from drawing the comic due to several reasons below.
I will still be doing packs with additional art and will do 40$ works, so don't you worry. You'll get plenty of content during these months.
So, here's the plan on what to do during these months, apart from taking a deserved vacation:
1: Finish/edit/polish the script for the 2nd chapter. I did 3 versions of the script, and the third one has finally fullfilled my expectations. It is more compact than the first one, and has a strong key idea that is gradually progressing through the narrative. It feels more like a novel. And it's really fucking creepy. I've got me some Thomas Ligotti books and I did my best to read through all of Lovecraft that I've got. Though, some of his work is very pretentious and I had to restrain myself from dropping the book saying "Oh, come on, Howard, what the fuck is wrong with you, you showoff quirt?!"
Ligotti, on the other hand, is much more refined.
Some more character development and drama is going to happen too.
And of course there will be some... spicy scenes. But I finally discovered the point of them, so they should not stuck out from the narrative like a sore thumb.
The only thing is that it's less funny, random and... Tarantino-esque..? than the first one. But I'll snuck some sardonic jokes in it, don't worry.
2: Finish me some concept art. Yarrrr. There will be 4 new characters added to the narrative, with 2 that I showed off before already. And one more monster concept. You might think that 1 monster is not enough, especially after we saw like... 5 different ones in the 1rst chapter, but once again I must say that second chapter is more... chamber. It has less of a scale, but more of substance. And there will be more body-horror including normal humans.
3: Sketch some important pages. I found out that sketching the ending BEFORE you've sketched the begining is way more productive than just doing things progressively. It makes you look at your script from different points of time, adding some rather interesting ideas.
4: I need to improve the style for the lineart. Sometimes it looks good, sometimes it's not. TIme is a big factor. Brush settings too. I need to play with my pen(is) brush a little bit to find what's working.
As I've mentioned before, I'll be doing lots of things to get myself ready for the next round of drawing the comic. For now I must took some time to recollect all the ideas and solutions I've had for past two years.
I am very happy that this project turned out the way it is, not without it's mistakes and other mishaps, but it's completed to the point where I can finally put a semicolon.
