Hi all! Here's Newlife 0.6.0, the final update in the improved pregnancy release. 


I found a lot of bugs in testing so optimistically that might mean there aren't many left... less optimistically it's possible that this is just a buggy release in general. We'll see!


The next update will be PMW - I'll count up the votes tomorrow and post the results.

Major changes & additions:

Added a new socialisation scene that can appear if you have a baby and a female friend who isn't a mother and is not pregnant

The PC can now ask her partner to start trying for a baby via the important talk date action at home. Your boyfriend or husband may also make the request of you while you're in your flat.


Minor changes:

The jerk-friend event can now fire at neutral liking towards the bf (but not disliked), and no longer has a love requirement.

Changed the timing on the NPC pregnancy reveal scene so it should fire at the end of the week where she gets pregnant, before the player is shown the “x has become pregnant” message in the week summary. 

Reworked the logic around pregnancy revelation to make it a bit more likely the PC gets dumped on telling her bf that he got her pregnant. In particular, having a child already no longer blocks these breakups.


Bugfixes:

Fixes to text issues. Thanks to Saint Destiny, NoName, OrangeJuice and dotSEA for reporting some of these.

Please add a button to return to the main menu. Or let me load save file in the middle of the event. one more thing, please add baldness hairstyles for male npcs.

Her life is changing according to her behavior. I want NPCs to interact with each other at least a little bit. I hope people would treat her as a lewd woman if she wore obscene clothes and repeated lewd behavior. On the contrary, I hope people will treat her as a good woman if she wears good clothes and repeats good behavior. In New Life, No matter what I've DONE, there's no change in her life or the reactions of the people around her. It's like a PC and each NPC living separately in a parallel world. Even worse, even the same NPC has no continuity in his behavior. The more time I spend playing New Life, the more empty the results are. That's what I'm most dissatisfied with in New Life. Each object exists in its own parallel world, and every event seems to be just floating around. Let me give you an example. Here's an male NPC called Steve. He threatened the PC and got her body. And he's asking for a date next week, acting like he's never threatened a PC. And she dates steve joyfully, as if she were a woman who had never been threatened by him. This is terrible. Are these people short-term amnesia? In my opinion If Steve threatened the PC once, he wouldn't ask for a date anymore. He'll give her "ORDER". not a requests. And she should never be happy with an unwanted date. If she tries to refuse, he'll take advantage of her weakness and make her obey his orders. Blackmail event.. At that point, their relationship must be radically different from before. Let me give you another example. Here's a woman named Jane. She's crazy about parties and one-night stands. PC sometimes goes to bar with Jane. And there, by Jane, PC goes on a date with another man. PC can just drink and part with him, but maybe she'll take the man to her house for sex. What matters here is that Jane witnesses all this. Unless Jane is blind. and The next time she meets PC, she must ask PC if PC has had sex with him. She will treat PC as an unfaithful slut. so If PC has a BF and Jane is Jerk, She'll take PC's weak spot. And she will always use PC if she gets in trouble. Let me give you one more example. She can often be considered a very lewd woman by her co-workers. She has sex with her boss for promotion. Or have sex with a repairman in an empty room. Are all the rooms in her workplace equipped with incredible soundproofing? Otherwise, someone would have heard them having sex. Not only that, maybe her costume is inappropriate. Because she likes to wear low-cut tops and short skirts. She's not the only employee in her job, is she? Maybe her co-workers saw her sex video leaked on the Internet or watched her porn in the theater. She will be a target of sexual harassment for her male colleagues, and a contemptible gossip for her female colleagues. And this will cause her stress to rise, and her work performance will get lower and lower, eventually leading to her dismissal from work. What if one day a sex video leak event is chosen? I'd like to see PC's life affected by the events she went through. When sex videos are leaked on the Internet, her life can never be the same as before. That's because the people around her will look at her differently. The men's attitude toward her will be very different from before. Depending on their personality and relationships. I want those changes at least a little bit.

splendid donesn't do NC content on the official release and the blackmailing would probably be considered NC, the others i wouldn't know about though

I found a logic issue. If the PC's bf has certain traits, the jerk friend initial scene makes very little sense. So first a bit of copy-paste from the game: "You chat with your boyfriend and his friend. Ali asks you if you use birth control when you sleep with his friend. ____________________________________ You reply that you aren't on birth control. He nods approvingly and says that getting pregnant is a babe's duty and it's good to hear you accept it. " "Ali asks his friend if he uses condoms with you. Kye indicates that he doesn't always. Ali nods with approval and says that if you were his woman he'd spunk inside you every time. " "They aren't done talking though. Ali queries whether women hate the unnatural feel of a rubber as much as any real man does. Kye replies that some girls do like it bare, and you're one of them. Of course safety is very important to him, so he's always careful with protection anyway." The NPC bf in this case is a special character with the following traits: " - HATES_CONDOMS - SLEAZY - CRUDE - IMPREGNATOR - WANTS_KIDS" I know that caring personalities by default aren't going to be crude or sleazy, but the hates_condoms and impregnator clash very obviously with the responses in the scene. This NPC hasn't used condoms at all, for instance, and by personality wouldn't, yet replies twice that he does (At least sometimes). I feel a few checks here would make sense, so the bf replies either by personality or what has actually happened so far. An impregnator bf for instance would be very much against any sort of protection, and might even say so.

Saint Destiny's list of spelling corrections: "Motherhood hasn't treated you so well, but you're sure it can be a positive, happy experience for some women. Even as you're answering her though, you can't help but wonder Why she's asking such questions. " "Why" is capitalised while it shouldn't be.

So i played with the "Damages Condoms" mutation and the condom never ever broke in multiple games, no matter what happened. Is there maybe an issue?

In the new scene where your boyfriend can ask you to start a family, twice now saying yes doesn't force you to stop taking the pill.

I remember asking a while back whether or not there would be an "anti-maternal" trait added for the PC to really not want to get pregnant. I belive you said that if one were to be added, it would be during the pregnancy release. Since that release has now come to its end, does that mean we'll never see a trait like this?

I wouldn't say "never". In fact, this one really jsut slipped my mind a bit. It's a trait that would fit well into the game, but my current aim with development is to pare it down to the bare essentials and push for 1.0.0 without getting sidetracked. Perhaps I did take it a little too far - The 0.4.x updates stretching to 30 releases was a bit of an eye-opener to me though and I maybe overcompensated with my attempts to keep the pregnancy content focused. I'll put a note somewhere prominent - it's tempting to drop it in as a "between major updates" release, but I have some other ideas there that will probably take up 0.6.2 and 0.6.3. I'll have a think about the situation after that.

When the PC initiates the "try for a baby" conversation: "You explain to Evan that you feel ready to have another baby/ " That stroke should be a full stop, I imagine?

Thank you! I've changed it so setting the trying-for-baby status automatically now stops the PC from taking the pill, so that issue shouldn't arise in the future.

There doesn't seem to be a bug there, although it might be that the numbers need to be considered. Assuming no sabotage, the chance of a condom naturally becoming "damaged" is between 0.01% and 0.09% per turn of sex depending on pace and whether the PC has the passionate-lover trait. The condom damaging trait multiplies this by 100, but this still could mean as little as 1%/turn for gentle sex. Once the condom is damaged, its chance of actually breaking is between 10% and 60% per sex-turn, with the condom-damaging trait having no effect. Condom sabotage by the man just sets it to "damaged" when it's put on. I'll tweak the numbers on that second category a little. In general, if you have longrough sex you should see condoms start to break, but if your lovers are very quick and/or gentle it's not so likely even with the trait.

I would love this but you would really need to make it a major release. there would be a lot of stuff you would need to write/program for it.
