“Kazuma! Kazuma! Did I do good? I feel like I did good!” Darkness cheerfully chimed as she along with Kazuma exited the dark dungeon. Darkness was, of course, clinging to his side and looking at the boy with wonder in her eyes. She looked like she really wanted to be praised.

“Yes, you did good. I am just really happy that this is another mission that we managed to complete with great success.” Kazuma spoke with a sigh, trying to subtly push the clingy dragon a bit away from him while head patting her.

“Why do you always sound so surprised, my dearest Kazuma? Isn’t it obvious that we could beat a simple dungeon like that on my power alone?” Megumin bragged as she crawled out through the entrance holding her head and ducking, because the entrance door just wasn’t built for someone her size.

“My power helped too! No monster gets through me or my scales! I’ll protect you all!” Darkness declared, proudly pounding her fist against her chest. “Even that big sword of that even bigger skeleton barely tickled me!”

“Yeah. I must admit that when I first saw that sword crash down on you, I was really worried about you. But then I remembered that you are Darkness and I knew that you would be fine.” Megumin spoke, putting two of her hands on the shoulder of the small dragon while head patting her with a third hand.

“Hehehe~” Darkness giggled.

“Gosh, how are you this cute~” Megumin praised her and Darkness giggled even more.

A lot has happened since Nagisa had changed Kazuma’s entire crew. Though did they really change if nobody remembered the original?

Well Kazuma certainly remembered and that made his daily life all the more interesting now. Darkness and Megumin seem to think that everything was as it should be and also have changed exactly how Nagisa had said they would. The only thing she didn’t mention was that Darkness now acted much more openly and childlike, while Megumin now gave off some serious older sister vibes.

But what surprised him most was how ‘normal’ his life seemed to stay. Now don’t get the wrong idea, living with a giant spider, a horse and a dragon is certainly something he needed to get used to, but now that a month had passed, none of that seemed to be an issue anymore.

In terms of mission success rate, as much as it pained him to admit it, these seemingly arbitrary changes did a lot for the team. This was already the fifteenth adventurer mission that they went on without any hitches or failures. Not even slight slip ups or blowing the whole place up. No masochistic trail offs or stupid mistakes of a certain goddess. Nothing.

Kazuma really underestimated the wider range of magic spells Megumin now knew and could use, as well as their effectiveness. Her first instinct is still to blow shit up at first glance, but at least it's no longer the only thing she could do.

And Darkness now was actually capable of fighting back. She is still not very good at it and still misses with a lot of her swings, but her dragon claws combined with her massive sword made her into a person that can deal very significant damage if the opponent doesn’t pay attention. Meaning that she became an even better tank than before, because now you couldn’t even ignore or sidetrack her anymore.

As weird as the new forms of his companions were to Kazuma, he honestly wasn’t sure anymore if he liked them now better than before. But there was one person that he definitely prefered the way she was now compared to how she was before. And that person was coincidentally also the only person to remember how they all looked before they changed.

“Kazumaaaa! Don’t leave me behind in this gross dungeon!” Aqua, the former goddess and now centaur servant of Kazuma, yelled in her usual upset tone.

“Aqua. You are a centaur. You should be faster than all of us.” Kazuma spoke, causing all three of the rest to turn back to the busty centaur as she stepped out of the dungeon gate behind them.

“By the way, Kazuma. I was impressed by your ingenuity back in the cave. I would have never thought about riding on Aqua and using her holy aura to attract and clump up all the monsters into one spot, so that I could blow them up with one move.” Megumin praised, looking in awe at Kazuma. Honestly it looked like she was trying to look up to him, but since she was about 50% taller than him, this was more a figurative attempt than a literal one.

“Could you not change the topic on me?!?” Aqua yelled upset, trotting nearer to the rest of the crew while flailing her arms like a little child. Then she quickly stopped when she noticed that the bags on her back almost slipped up because of it. “Why am I always the bait in these missions? It’s not fair!”

“Because your holy magic attracts monsters. Megumin just said that, right?” Darkness asked, looking at the big spider questioning. Megumin just nodded, making Darkness giggle.

“That's not what I… never mind. Can we go home now? I want to drink something good.” Aqua let out, seemingly giving up on her rant. She adjusted the bags on her back a bit, to make sure that they wouldn’t get loose again when she flailed around the next time.

“Yeah, yeah. We will make sure to celebrate right after we collect the reward from the guild.” Kazuma spoke, waving his hand dismissively at Aqua. Suddenly he was lovingly hugged from behind by someone who was much larger than himself. And also had a few arms to spare.

“And we made it because of our immaculate teamwork. Darkness as our tank, me as our legendary mage, Kazuma as our tactician and Aqua as our cleric and supporter. As long as Kazuma leads us, we really have nothing to fear.” Megumin announced, pressing her boobs against the back and leaning even closer to him.

“Yeah! Kazuma will lead us well!” Darkness said and clung to his arm again, this time with a slight blush on her face. Then she added with an innocent smile. “And he will… Hehe~... I might have taken a few more blows than I thought. You don’t mind helping me out, right Kazuma?”

“Yeah sure. Whatever you need.” Kazuma answered as Megumin started to pat the head of Darkness again. All three of them looked happy.

“Why am I the only one excluded from this again…?” Aqua said, quietly but audibly upset.

“Oh? You don't want to feel left out? Then how about you go, grab the carriage and bring it here. I don’t quite remember where we parked it though.” Kazuma answered, though judging by the look on her face, that wasn’t exactly what Aqua wanted to hear. Yet…

“Yes, Kazuma. I’ll be right back.” Without a word of complaint, Aqua galloped away, much faster than any of the other party members could run even on their best day. Kazuma really had no recollection where they had left the carriage, but thankfully Aqua’s memory was actually quite good, even if she was and still is terrible at using it.

For all that he had laughed at Aqua being useful as his servant in the beginning, he was shocked at how convenient she actually became, once she just didn’t make any unessisarily stupid decisions anymore. The fact that she also now ran at superhuman speeds and was strong enough to pull boulders was just the cherry on top in relation to her convenience. And also her horseback was super comfortable to ride on… just saying.

“Hey Kazuma~” Megumin spoke in a serious but happy tone. “Thanks again for buying that carriage for me. I am still impressed by the sheer… pardon the pun… horsepower of Aqua. Who knew she could… Oh, here she comes~”

Carrying a massive carriage behind her, Aqua trotted back to the gang, looking not even slightly out of breath. Yeah, that's right. That girl just pulled a double sized wooden and steel carriage a couple hundred meters and didn’t even break a sweat. Kazuma really was jealous about Aqua’s newfound sheer strength and bottomless stamina. Perhaps not by how she came to acquire it, but still. But this was a secret for only Kazuma and Aqua to bear.

“Here is the carriage. Everyone, hop in. We are going back to town… and getting something to drink.” Aqua announced and gestured to the three of them to get in.

Darkness happily jumped into the carige, followed by Kazuma who she was still holding closely at his arm. Closely behind the two of them was Megumin, who scaredly placed one of her spider legs after another into the carriage. First two, then four, six and finally all eight legs, making her stand upright and putting her full weight onto the carriage, testing its suspension.

It was pretty obvious that she was still scared that her own weight would break it, but that wasn’t going to happen. Kazuma was sure of that, because this thing was a special order from him that can both hold Aqua and Megumin at the same time without even coming close to its limit. It was sturdy, but because Megumin had broken about 2 carriages before this one Kazuma could kinda see why she would be scared to enter.

“All aboard. Aqua, bring us home~” Kazuma commanded after he looked around to the other two girls, who both nodded to him. Then the carriage started moving as Aqua started to pull it like the strongest Packhorse in existence.

“Finally! I can’t wait to get a drink.” Aqua said as she picked up some speed and pulled the carriage along the wide open plains, really looking forward to the fest that they would undoubtedly be having that night. And the rest of this party filled with monster girls and Kazuma was starting to look forward to that as well.

After all, what is a successful quest without a drink afterwards?

And this is how Kazuma gained a powerfull party of capable monster girls. Now there is nothing for him to complain anymore. And I will have a word with the reincarnation service of that world. Honestly... --- Nagisa Fulkami
