So this is actually half a page in the script. Copy felt the scene would be done better justice if we used a large establishing shot in front of the house, and I think it was a good call. As for the "gloom", I think it's interesting how a little connotation can separate the difference between "lived in" or "cozy" versus foreboding. Though I suppose if you're an orphan looking for a home, telltale signs of poverty are foreboding in their own right.
