Wait, you modded your game heavily - but you kept the original UI?  Why?!  Why would ANYONE keep the horrible UI, unless they were prevented from fixing it, because they stupidly played a Bethesda game on a console? This time around, the music worked much better for me.  Playing it only during the narrative montage and using traditional instrumentation, rather than modern electronic ones, allowed it to stay in the background and add to the atmosphere instead of clashing with it.
