Until now I had presumed that the griffons we saw in Equestria Games were representatives of an Equestrian city with a predominantly griffine population, since the other teams represented towns within Equestria, not foreign nations. Of course, it might be that they are technically Equestrian citizens, but nevertheless think of themselves as representatives of the Griffon nation/race within the context of the games, just like the Cloudsdale team might think of themselves as representing pegasi in general. And the games ARE biased towards ponies, at least in the flying competitions, since those rings looked like a pretty tight squeeze for a pegasus' wingspan. Griffon wings appear to be quite a bit larger, so even placing would be quite an achievement under those conditions.
