I've been in a bit of a creative funk lately. It's tough watching every original thing I do get the exact same viewership on Youtube. What's the goal? What's the purpose? It feels like I've been spinning my wheels in the mud. I don't usually get like this - and granted I recently started taking meds for a thyroid condition so maybe that's what's messing with me - and to break out of it, today I drew Stebe.

I don't expect Stebe to impress anyone. I just expect to Stebe my way to better shading technique. That and better everything. Faces, hands, feet, even arms are still pretty challenging to me and if starting work on Simiantelligent shorts has proved anything, I still need a lot of practice with these things before they look really good in motion. Projects still need to be completed, but it feels nice to just spend a lot of time drawing something, and applying what I know as well as I can without worrying about the economics of redrawing it and moving it.

Anyway! Some of you may have noticed that we haven't had desktop backgrounds in a bit, and it's because Pencils is working hard on a Simiantelligent comic, featuring a script I wrote a while back. I believe about five pages are finished currently, and once we've got enough of a backlog to start releasing them weekly, we'll begin uploading them to Patreon. Once the whole thing is done, we'll have a digital book or perhaps even a print thing for you guys!

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to those of you who have stuck things out and who have been supporting us thus far. It's been a struggle trying to figure out what the next direction ought to be to grow, but all the improvements and learning I've done over the span of Dawn Somewhere's existence wouldn't be possible without everyone!

And as for Stebe? Well, he may not be a completed animation, but he got me glued to my monitor for a few hours without even thinking of the time. The occasional non-sequitur is probably a good way to air things now and again! And in just a little while, I expect to have a few more animations out in close order!

Stebe sums up Dawn Somewhere so well. Low-wage worker in a sad world but not a second of self-pity, just wacky fun and peanut butter heads. Which we are gonna tax by the way, you're welcome. I've come to sum up Simiantelligent as "Your taxes with monkeys on it", a spin on an old saying. With that said, extremely hyped for the digital book / print! That one I'll make it cross an ocean to have.

I like it.
