Yeah, the poor earth ponies got stuck with the power of "heart", as it were. Unicorns could probably not make earth ponies completely obsolete, since it's been established that they usually only know magic that relates to their special talent.  I don't think there are enough unicorns with farming-related cutie marks to edge out the earth ponies. My favourite fanon in this regard is that earth ponies COULD perform showier feats (such as making plants grow instantly) but their inherent sense for nature and its balance makes them not WANT to, instead preferring to let plants grow at their own place and just provide exactly what's needed exactly when it's needed to let the plants reach their maximum potential. Not hiring unicorns to do the manual labour during harvest is still bloody stupid, though. On an unrelated note, the title card is certainly accurate: That pony REALLY drinks!
