I love the moment when reactors just give in to the ridiculousness of this episode and start laughing at all the Jonathan posters. Just let it happen, guys! The interesting thing about the Spike/Buffy stuff in this episode is that it's not made clear whether Spike knows yet that Faith was the one who said all that champagne-popping stuff to him in 'Who Are You' OR that Buffy knows about the encounter either. And re: Tillow, I'm definitely in the camp that Willow is fully aware of and, uh, "active" in her and Tara's relationship at this point. I actually think they've been physically intimate for at least as long as Buffy/Riley have, as a lot of (if not all of) Biley's sex scenes take place in parallel with a scene of Tara and Willow alone together. For instance in 'The I In Team', both of them spend the night not at their dorm, and in 'Who Are You', Tillow's sweaty magic 'O' spell happens at the same time as Riley is with Faith. It's actually kind of cool if that theory is right, because it feels like the Buffy writers making a statement about what the network would and wouldn't let them show and the hypocrisy of that. Also also, I just noticed for the first time ever that one of the posters that magically changes back from a picture of Jonathan when the spell is broken is a Dingoes Ate My Baby poster, aka Oz's band.

I agree. When Buffy and Willow had the "Out all night" "You too" exchange, Willow was with Tara ALL NIGHT. Sure, they could have spent a lot of time talking, but to be out all night and getting back to your dorm in the early morning..... We can assume that Buffy and Riley were also as conversational, but still covered that stuff mostly during the days they spend together. Willow and Tara spent a lot of time together talking during the day. Once they were together all night, I have to assume.......

Doo't for a second think you are alone in your Buffy anxiety. Everyone I've talked to and all the reactors I've watched have had Buffy is ending too quickly anxiety. Especially after really good episodes and especially especially after season finales. I think it really starts to ramp up by the end of season 3, when the high school years are over. It's like you can't stand to stop watching, but you kind of have a little dread hidden in the back of your mind that the end is coming. We all get it. Just keep remembering, the rewatches are really great too. Trust us, we all are avid rewatchers.😋 This episode is definitely an oddball one, but you have to admit it was fun. I kind of love that they gave Jonathan this big break, especially after all the abuse he suffered before, although he does kind of end up in the same position in the end. One thing I kind of really thought was a bigger moment that seems to fly by, was something he said to Buffy, which I found to be quite true. At least so far. He said how Buffy was disappointed that Riley didn't look into Buffy-Faith's eyes and just see it wasn't her. I honestly think this is really quite true of Buffy. Back in the Angel days, how many times did Angel just intuit what Buffy was thinking. True, not every time, but many times. Like, in Earshot, he just knew she was trying to read his mind. Plus, even when driven mad from spending years in a hell dimension, he still imprinted on her. Part of why I think Spike and Buffy have such great chemistry is because Spike has seemed to be in her head. How many times has he read her like a book. He knew her and Angel still loved each other when they were pretending not to. He knew just how she felt after Parker left her high and dry, enough to poke at her insecurities. Even with Giles, she saw into his eyes and saw him, even though he was a demon. When she was in Faith's body, she was so disappointed he could do the same for her. I know it was just a quick line in the episode, but on my first watch through, I had already started thinking it was true. I think Buffy deep down feels that a true love connection carries a bond where each can feel each other and almost read each other's thoughts. Riley, did not pass that test. It seems she has pushed past that kind of thing now though. I really like your pointing out the similarities between the dance and the prom. I had never seen that before. Especially that they were hiding Riley's face in shadow. I just never saw that before. Nice.
