Hi I don’t know if anyone else has told you about this yet but you keep mentioning it so I thought I would leave something here. So there’s not really any sub text in the Faith and Buffy relationship from Buffy side but there’s actually canon sub text on the Faith end. It’s been confirmed by the writers by Joss and by Eliza Dushku herself that Faith was bi. And that she had an attraction, may be a crush, maybe real feelings, for Buffy which is actually pretty obvious if you go back and look at some of the conversations they had. For instance the conversation they had in beauty and the beast where Faith was trying to convince Buffy that all men are “just in it for the chase” and this and that. She was often sort of down talking men around Buffy and that always felt to me like her way of trying to feel Buffy out or drop hits. Anyway, regardless of all that, it is actually canon. Faith was a bi character. But, while it’s still a problem these days, especially back then being by or representing bisexual people in media was severely frowned upon. Biphobia was even more prominent in our media than it is today.

To be accurate, Joss did not originally intend it, and actually thought fans were finding something that was not there, until he said he rewatched the episodes, and saw it himself. Eliza brought it in her view of the character, and then some of the writers went with it.
