With Buffy and Angel I always see them as not broken up because the desire to want to be together is always there. In the show 'Friends' there's this line of "it's never off the table" and that's how I see them. As for this season....I'd say from Episode 10 onwards they were dating because pretty much all their scenes had romantic undertones :)
