Mapping Journal: Updates and a sneak peek (Patreon)

Hello everyone.  Today we have a few admin bits and pieces to run through and then a look at what we're up to.

Alt Map Poll

The poll was quite close this month, but the winner was the village ruins, hastily fortified by an army, perhaps for some kind of last stand.  Yes, a snappy title!  

We don't normally comment on which option was our favourite, but we were really excited that this idea came up and then won.  We've been trying to make a map of this kind for a little while - the tavern that became The Pickled Wyvern was originally going to be an abandoned and fortified tavern on a battlefield, but the sketches didn't work and were redrawn as the Wyvern.  So, we're very pleased to be making this now.

Poll comments

A few of you commented on the last poll regarding unfurnished maps and rooftops for buildings.  We didn't reply as the poll was in progress, but just to say we have noted these and will bear them in mind for future applicable maps.

Patreon Schedule

We're aware from various comments that new patrons may not be completely clear about what happens when throughout the month here on our patreon.  From the start of April we will post a schedule at the start of each month (as we have done a few times before) just to make sure everything is clear.  In that we'll also let you know by what method we'll be  selecting the third map that month.

Maps we're working on

As well as the April Patreon rewards, we've been working on various bits and pieces.  At the beginning of the month we released a 30x30 Crystal Cavern (in two colourways) that appears somewhere along the Spindlecave River.  We're meaning soon to make a little map illustrating the various locations along the river.

Next we made a Hall of Portals.  It went though various disastrous designs and an abortive attempt at working one of them up in Photoshop before we cut our losses and started again.  We think it turned out pretty fun and we're thinking of making a set of locations that the portals might lead to. 

At the moment we are working on furnishing the modular houses for the Desert City set.  They fit below the roofs from the Streets, Rooftops and Markets set.  You can see a sneak preview below of some of the buildings.  We're making an exclusive house for patrons so will upload that when the set goes on sale (probably the middle of the coming week).

There's going to be 15 houses, a mixture of poorer and richer dwellings.

After we've finished those, we've got a few other things scheduled for the month.  We haven't made a ship for ages so are planning on making a pirate sloop.  Then we're going to make a 20x20 sci-fi bunker, although we haven't designed that one yet!
