The fight scene at the end of this episode is a "oner" (meaning it's edited to look like it's shot in one continuous take). From the moment Matt walks into frame to the moment he walks into frame with the kid in his arms it's also a "true oner" (meaning no hidden cuts), which is exceedingly rare for an action sequence. This was accomplished by having the camera suspended on a rail above the hallway (they painted a ceiling in digitally) so that it could freely travel over the broken door and fallen stunt-men. Charlie Cox (the actor that plays Matt Murdock) did not do any of the actual stunt work. He is switched out at the start of the true oner (when the door closes momentarily), and switched back in at the end (when Matt falls over the body out of frame). Switching from stunt-man to actor (or vice-versa) is called a "Texas Switch" and this is a classic use of it. The main stunt man for Matt Murdock is Chris Brewster. Having said that, Charlie Cox did do _a lot_ of his own stunts for this show, and he's a very well trained fighter (mostly boxing, but also the Filipino martial art Kali, and Chinese Wing Chun). He just didn't have time to train for this long scene, as he was busy filming all the rest of the show. The scene has become quite famous, is colloquially known as "The Hallway Scene", and really signalled the start of the action-movie/-series renaissance we are in right now. I don't think we can credit it solely for it, but we can say that this was an early example of having stunt-people not just choreograph a scene, but direct it as well. This eventually led to projects like John Wick, which are fully realized by stunt people, written/directed/etc.

I'm glad you seem to be enjoying the vibe of this show. That's really the most important. The season takes its time so you gotta bathe in it a little. Don't get me wrong, I think the show is incredible, but I gotta say it's not my favourite to rewatch, it's very dark (as you mentioned) and if I'm rewatching stuff I usually go for more upbeat stuff. Watching with you adds a new element to it, at least!

For the one shot at the end of the episode, they did several consecutive takes - the one used is the last one IIRC (if not, definitely one of the later ones), which is why everyone looks a bit exhausted. That take was chosen to help emphasise that Matt, despite his enhanced abilities, is just a guy - he can't keep up 'full power' forever (especially in his current condition)

Carl Johnson

The psychology of the secret identity. A normal person wouldn't expect a billionaire to be Batman because of our preconceptions of billionaires. The same with a blind man. That's why Karen Page or anyone else wouldn't recognize Matt Murdock in the black mask. We humans see what we want to see.

Glad you picked up on The Creel Murdock sign from last episode as this episode His dad wins his last fight against Creel. Foggy mentions Saint Agnes which was one of the orphanages that Skye lived in.

Morgan Bridgland

Maybe I've missed it in the comments, but I'm surprised nobody has apparently mentioned already that Charlie Cox is actually English, not American. I remember when this first came out, people were SHOCKED(!!!) when they heard him speak in his native accent. Or maybe this was already known and I didn't hear it in the watch-alongs x

Thadman

Comics usually have a descriptive term in the title along with the characters' names like "The Invincible Iron Man" or "The Amazing Spider-Man," "Spectacular Spider-Man," "The Uncanny X-Men," and for Daredevil it's "Daredevil: The Man Without Fear." Cool, huh?

Ronix

the hallway fight scene is one of my favorite scenes from season one

Chris Elkins

What I really enjoyed from this episode is the fight scene showing Matt getting winded actually semi stopping and restarting between fights between different guys not just constantly tanking the fights with no taking damage. You can see and feel his pain and tiredness. Enjoying a darker edgy take on Marvel shows as well :)
