Happy weekend everybody! The last two reactions of the week will be shared throughout this weekend, both watchalongs and edited versions. Here's Dogma - click here to watchalong. (If you see an Unlock button, don't click it, click on the Refresh link right below it.)

Extra thank you to Tyler for providing me a copy of this back when I first started the View Askewniverse. I know this movie will be a tough one to watch along with me if you don't own your own copy of the film already. The edited version will drop later today.

Please enjoy! And thanks for watching!

That was an awesome watch-along. This was actually my first Kevin Smith movie. What drew me to it was the topics/themes and of course, George Carlin (RIP). I had that DVD with me all through college and gave it away long after graduation. Definitely my favorite in the VASU before I even knew what that was.

FYI, the reason the movie is unavailable is that Harvey Weinstein still controls the rights. Smith sold Clerks to Miramax, aka Disney, at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival, back when Weinstein was the head of Miramax (he and his brother Bob founded the company). Universal swooped in and made Mallrats, but Mallrats was a commercial bomb, and so Smith went back to Miramax for Chasing Amy. When it came to this, Miramax was willing to make it, but Disney refused to take the responsibility of releasing it due to the controversial religious content, so the theatrical distribution rights were licensed to Lionsgate, and the DVD was distributed by Sony. Since the film was initially set up at Miramax and the movie was merely licensed out, those rights ended up reverting personally to the Weinsteins. After Smith confirmed that the money would not go to Harvey himself, he made several offers to buy the rights to the film back, but Harvey refuses to sell it to him, just out of spite.

Such a great reaction, KL! This is my favourite Kevin Smith film I've seen - so far - and your understanding of it's creative liberties is appreciated. And yes, Alan Rickman stole every scene! He's my favourite part. 🙏
