Hey everyone! If you prefer watching, watch! If you prefer reading, read! Or do both! Welcome to the first official Member of the Month draw! This was an idea I proposed in my feedback form that I shared the other day. Not a single one of you disliked the idea, so that was some pretty firm confirmation for me to go ahead with it and I didn't want to waste time! I got to work figuring it all out and here we are.

What is Member of the Month?

This is a random draw of all active patrons who have been pledged for at least six months to my Patreon. The winner gets to pick a movie for me to watch that month! The full-length watchalong reaction and review to the winner's movie will be uploaded to Patreon and it may also get edited to go on the YouTube channel (depending on a variety of factors). This will happen every single month.

The reason that I wanted to implement this is because I've been asked in the past about offering a tier where people can pay me a large sum of money each month to request specific movies. Unfortunately, this makes me feel uncomfortable to offer, despite other reactors out there doing it successfully such as OGB Reacts, Movies with Mary, and Ashleigh Burton. So Member of the Month is my compromise!

The Member of the Month draw and winner will always be announced on the first Friday of each month. The reaction will be posted to Patreon before the end of the month. If I elect to put it on YouTube, there is no dedicated turnaround for that. It will just be when I want to/when I have the time.

What are the conditions/rules for Member of the Month?

General:

  • Patrons that are exported for the draw must be Active, which means there are no payments outstanding and your membership must not expire within 30 days if you have processed a cancellation request. If a pledge declines, you will need to ensure to clear this up before the draw occurs.
  • Patrons that are exported for the draw must have at least six months of pledges total to my Patreon. The months pledged do not have to be consecutive. If you are someone who pledged annually, you will count towards this as you have pre-paid for your six months of pledges.
  • Winners must confirm a Yes or No to me if they are okay with their first name or username being used in the YouTube video, if I elect to put the reaction on the channel.
  • Winners must reply to me within 24 hours with the movie of their choice, or a decline in participation. If they decline or I don't hear back, I will spin the wheel again and pick a new winner.
  • Winners will be excluded from the next 11 months of draws to make MotM even more fair and to ensure that every year will have 12 different winners.

Film-Specific:

  • This must be a first time viewing reaction. You must check my Letterboxd watched list to confirm your movie choice is not on there. Do not DM me asking if I've seen your movie choice.
  • The film must be available for me online in Canada, either to purchase, rent, or to stream. I am not willing to illegally download/torrent films and I don't have any other method to watch films with, such as Blu-Ray or DVD.
  • No anime films. Period.
  • No foreign films (this may change down the road).

That's it! Outside of that, I don't have any specific films that are firm "nopes" for this. So feel free to throw out a movie from any decade, any genre, super popular, obscure, etc. Feel free to pick a movie that didn't win a Patreon poll! Feel free to pick the worst movie you've ever seen. Feel free to pick something in between.

So now... the winner of January 2023's Member of the Month...

I did the wheel spin in the video with FIFTY-TWO of you listed. Holy cow, 52 is wild. Thank you so much! ❤️

The winner of the first MotM is MrCycoBoy! 🥳

I will send you a private message here on Patreon right now. 😊 I didn't say this in the video, but since this is the first MotM and I've only just announced it, I'm going to give this month's winner extra time to reply to me.

When the winner has picked their movie...

It is up to THEM to decide if they want to share their pick with the rest of you OR keep it a secret. If you elect to keep it a secret, then everyone will just be surprised when you see a notification drop for the full-length share. And I will not say a word. 🤐 If you win and choose to share what movie you gave me, you can leave a comment about it on the Member of the Month post announcing your win.

Well after recording this video and writing this post, I AM SO JAZZED ABOUT THIS. And I hope that many of you are really excited about this too. Please let me know if you have any questions at all about this in the comments below!

Cheers,

Can I ask for a clarification about the foreign films? Just in case I get selected. By foreign you mean not american? Or just language-wise not filmed in English? Would a spanish produced and directed film filmed in English with Hollywood actors be ok?

kaiielle

Yes, of course! I treat foreign films as movies that are filmed in a language that isn't English, where it requires me reading English subtitles to understand the whole film. Even though I use subtitles all the time currently, it's because I am also hearing the words being spoken while I am following along with the words on screen. I worry that for a non-English movie, because I have to be constantly reading the subtitles to know what's going on because I can't also use my ears, I won't react very well because I will be so focused on that. Foreign films are just something I'd prefer to try on my own first before deciding if they are something I would want to do for reaction content. Foreign films dubbed in English audio isn't something I really want to try for reaction content yet either. As long as the film is in English and the actors are speaking English, that's totally fine to me. 😊
