Hi everyone! Earlier today, a former Patreon employee announced on their LinkedIn that she, along with the rest of the Patreon Security Team that she worked on, had been laid off. This has resulted in panic, especially on Twitter and in the Patreon Creator Server that I am a part of. Some creators have mentioned that they have already had patrons cancel their pledges and leave the platform because of that employee posting what they did.

If you have any concern about your account here, I would strongly recommend that you change your password and pick a different and stronger password than you had before. Please make sure to set up Two-Factor Authentication if you don't have it set up.

Personally, I am not concerned about this and do not have any plans to switch platforms as a result of this. Strategic shifts with companies this large are very common and I have personal experience with this in my former career. Sometimes as a result of those shifts, people get laid off for a whole variety of reasons. I think this five-person team was probably a smaller division of the overall security "team" or department within Patreon and Patreon was likely just making some cuts. Again, companies do this sometimes and it's usually not any concern.

Final Edit: I've removed some of the information I shared earlier because as a public blog post has been published on Patreon's website addressing both the above situation and a fake Glassdoor review that circulated across TikTok and Twitter, where people thought the situations were linked. Click here to read the post.

Thanks everyone!
