Hi friends! I've got more Clone Wars for you! Moving forward, I'll be uploading reactions on a per arc basis instead of per episode. The arc we are watching today is the Toydaria Duology. It consists of the following episodes:

  • Season 03, Episode 03: The Citadel
  • Season 01, Episode 01: Counter Attack

Let me know your thoughts on this arc in the comments below.

The Jar Jar episodes always make me think they were poking fun at the secret theory that Jar Jar was originally going to be like the biggest baddest secret sith lord. He does crazy things that SHOULDN'T work but somehow do.

Hey, Kaiielle! SUPPLY LINES: I prefer pairing the Toydaria duology with the Ryloth trilogy at season's end in order to keep the Ryloth stuff together but Disney didn't do that with their official order. As I told you, you'll be able to wrap your brain around those kinds of small discrepancies. Senator Lot Dod's name is a fusion of real Senators Trent Lott of Mississippi and Chris Dodd of Connecticut! He appeared in the Prequels. Corpulent Twi'lek Senator Orn Free Taa also appeared in the Prequels and is famed for his gluttony. This episode introduces freedom fighters Cham Syndulla and Gobi. Twi'lek head tails are called 'lekku'. This episode also introduces Toydarian King Katuunko. It's interesting to note that Toydarian culture values honor and compassion when the only member of the species we've met up to now has been Watto, a grubby sleazeball. The Nikto Jedi who valiantly sacrificed himself for the Twi'lek guerrillas was named Ima-Gun Di which foreshadowed his fate since it sounds like "I'm gonna die!". Lol. Jar Jar Binks was actually useful in this episode which is rare! There are only about seven Jar Jar-centric episodes in the whole series so you don't have to endure him too much. Whenever Jar Jar appears, he is voiced by the same actor who portrayed him on film, Ahmed Best. AMBUSH: This is one of the better episodes of the whole series let alone the first season and is essential viewing. You're right about the droids not being threatening which is a movie failing. The idea is that they can be mass-produced but they're just spindly cannon fodder and their hijinks are childish. The super battle droids with the broad chassis, the shielded spherical droidekas and as yet to be seen commando droids are much better enemies. Not only does Yoda tear it up in this episode but his quiet pep talk differentiating the clones is masterful and moving.
