January Thoughts

This month was a bit quieter than what I've experienced in the past, but I also really think my channel is going in that direction to be very lurk-friendly now more than ever and I plan to lean into that, while still having wonderful conversations and engagement when it's there. This month was very consistent in that we finished Mass Effect 2, continued through Star Wars: KOTOR, and also enjoyed Beyond: Two Souls. On January 22nd, I fired up my first ever reading stream and I read The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for you all. I had a great time doing that! I was supposed to have a Destiny 2 stream with SoEverdream and TheHereafter, but had to cancel it because of the COVID booster knocking me down.

A lot happened at the start of the month, though! I upgraded my camera to a Sony a6000 and I am so much happier with how I look on stream and in my YouTube videos. I also purchased a wonderful smart light wall for my space and set up Lumia Stream to allow you all to change them at any time during the stream using commands. I switched my bot from Streamlabs Chatbot to Firebot, which has saved me a lot of stress and headaches. I implemented some Snapchat filters for my face that you can redeem with channel points. I set up a cute little shelving unit in my office and put some books and other little decor items on there. I also finally hung some artwork on the walls.

New emotes are coming VERY soon. I will definitely be receiving them this month and I cannot wait to get those set up on Twitch and in the Discord server.

Lastly, we started watching The O.C. in Discord this month. This is mostly something that Jake and I are doing for funsies, but anyone can join us. We've already suckered in Davy to watching the show with us. It's been very fun.

New YouTube Direction: Movie Reactions

On the 20th, I watched and reacted to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and tossed that up on YouTube on the 26th. While it was intended for the existing community to watch, the YouTube algorithm really grabbed a hold of the video and pushed it out to way more people than I was expecting (currently well over 200,000 impressions) and I find myself in a position where YouTube Partnership might actually be in reach fairly soon, which is something that I never thought I would ever get. I've really been enjoying interacting with new people in the comments section of my video, and I'm so excited to watch the rest of the movies and become part of the fandom. I'll actually be watching and recording The Empire Strikes Back shortly after I post this to you all. My goal is to have it edited fully by end of day tomorrow (Thursday) and then posted here on Friday, and out to the public on Saturday.

Seeing the success of this one video has me really motivated to not only continue the series, but explore and watch some new movies after Star Wars is over. I've already had some new subscribers suggest other movies for me to watch. I have also implemented some new benefits here on Patreon in case anyone on YouTube wants to support. I am providing access the reactions early, of course, at the Trail tier and higher, and also providing the entire unedited reactions at all tiers. So who knows, we may end up having some new friends show up here, in Discord, and on Twitch throughout this next year.

To those of you who have watched, I really hope that you enjoyed it.

Thoughts for February

I am MEGA excited to start Mass Effect 3 on Sunday, Feb 6. Basically bouncing off the walls to start the end of the trilogy. I'm also looking forward to continuing KOTOR. We'll be wrapping up Beyond: Two Souls this Friday, followed by some chill ACNH or Stardew (TBD). On Saturday, I had originally planned to have my Ella on cameras only stream, but I'm pushing that out a bit because my dad is probably going to come to my house to visit. However, everything else is still a go. I'll be diving into Alien: Isolation on the 11th, and playing American Trucking Sim with Slay3K on his stream on the 12th and on my stream on the 25th. I also may try to reschedule that Destiny 2 stream this month with the boys, so stay tuned for that.

For YouTube, in addition to Star Wars E5, I also want to watch, record, and upload E6 and E1 this month. I'm hoping editing will be faster for these three now that I have one movie under my belt.

The O.C. in Discord will continue as normal and I also hope to schedule a few more hangs and movies.

But otherwise, this month is going to be pretty normal.

ICYMI

I published this yesterday, but in case you missed it, I now have ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS available if you would prefer to support that way over monthly. Annual memberships receive a 10% discount on the total membership cost. Converting your pledge is not at all necessary, it's just an option for those of you who may prefer to pay this way and want a bit of a discount for doing so. To adjust this, go to your Memberships in the top right hand corner.

That recaps the January 2022 Trail Thoughts newsletter, and I can officially say that I have published a whole year of newsletters which is super rad. Thank you for reading these and soaking in the updates and information that I share. I really enjoy writing these and can't wait to see where 2022 takes us. 💜
