This is literally the first time I have heard anybody denegrate Roy or criticize his parenting in any way in all my life. I don’t see it and it has never crossed my mind. He was going through something he couldn’t explain and his wife (understandably, to a degree, didn’t have the patience to deal with it. His parenting skills themselves are rooted in the 70’s as were my parents’ so I don’t have any argument against how he spoke to his kids either. I don’t know. I’ll agree to disagree on this point.

I don't know about denigrating, but I have seen interviews with Spielberg where he said he wouldn't have written Roy the way he did if he had that movie to do over again. He specifically cites how easily Roy just leaves his kids and his family.
