The updated version of The Workout Paradox video is now live: https://kgs.link/WorkoutUpdate

After hearing your feedback on our initial video, we consulted experts, revised the script, and added more information to the parts that were too simplified. All changes and the link to the original video (now unlisted) are listed in the infobox over on YouTube for full transparency. This experience was uncomfortable, but ultimately encouraging for us. It reminded us that it is a challenge to make ten-minute videos on complex topics without cutting too much and that we need to be constantly aware of this.

Thanks again for your honest feedback and for helping us get better. We truly appreciate it. And special thanks to Ben Carpenter for his support on the rework!

This commitment to accuracy and willingness to admit when you missed the mark is what shows how much integrity Kurzgesagt has, and makes us all love the group so much more 🫶 Thank you for being a good role model in this way too

As one of the people who grumbled here about the lack of nuance in the original video, I'm happy with this update, and intrigued to dig into the sources further. P.S. The note on the organs that burn far more energy than muscle is one I'm most looking forward to digging into. The most important of the updated lines, IMHO, is: "...but most people struggle with keeping up the habit, if they don’t love the extra movement." I love that this line touches on the importance of renewing the pleasure of doing the exercise. Humans are pleasure-pursuing machines; sooner or later we'll give up any habit that doesn't bring us pleasure. Making a note that the person needs to "love the extra movement" is one of the keys to finding workout habits we can stick with, long term.

I took the message of the original video to heart and a few days after the original came out, I committed to a 1500cal/day diet and 2hrs of walking. 8 weeks later as todays video came out I got off the scales 10.1kg down from my starting weight. It's been tough, and I'm very much looking forward to reaching my final goal weight so I can start eating a bit more and trying to put on a bit of muscle, but it's also been really rewarding. Thanks Kurzgesagt!

Most of my problem is that I get very little pleasure from most forms of exercise and friend, I have tried a lot (so please don't take this as an invite for suggestions, I am currently trying something new). I don't believe I am alone in that.

Thornhenge

I just think it's great that you keep trying new things. Best wishes.

One of the things I loved about Dutch cities when we were visiting was that it was literally easier to get around by walking rather than driving. In fact, because of Dutch city design, it makes doing something active like walking or riding bikes way more enjoyable. You actually find yourself wanting to be outside more and thus being more active! I lost weight while we were visiting, and it was definitely NOT because I was eating less or eating healthy (though I’ve heard food in Europe is much healthier and higher quality than here in the US).

Great accomplishment, Rhino_Aus! You can be really proud of yourself. We certainly are! Keep up the good work!
