Hi everyone, it's Rich here with the latest DF Direct Weekly - delivered a day early! - plus a quick update on what's going on. I mentioned in the update earlier this week that scheduling is a bit all-over-the-place at the moment, which 'in the here and now' has translated to our Dead Space coverage being late.

Truth is, we were supplied with code last Friday. However, it turned out to be a retail preorder key and we had no actual access to the game until Tuesday. And then we discovered that PS5 and Xbox Series X quality modes (and Series S which has no choice of modes) had an unlocked frame-rate and no 30fps cap. We duly reported this to the developer because it was not a good experience - but it turned out that this is unique to the gold master code and not the day one experience. As we're committed to putting out analysis accurate to the game you'll actually be playing, we had to put certain elements of the work on hold.

That's one reason why this Direct comes to you a day early - Oliver is handling the multiplatform comparison and until the day one patch arrived (on day one, funnily enough), he could only push production of that video so far. Re-prioritising, you get the Direct earlier instead. Enjoy!

DF Direct Weekly #96: Xbox Developer_Direct Is A Hit, Forspoken/Dead Space Reaction

At Digital Foundry, we've been complaining about gaming events - and the way games are shown - for years... but you know what? Microsoft's Developer_Direct cracks it, with only one more aspect required to make the format almost perfect. But what's not perfect? The release of Forspoken, especially on PC. John, Rich and Alex are at the mics to discuss all of this - and more. Nice! Happy Friday!

I think everyone who joined the Patreon knows and enjoys DF enough that you don't have to feel the need to explain why this or that may arrive a little late. It's fine, no need to put pressure/stress on yourselves :)

Thx guys... i had many laughs 😆👌🏻

Dead Space on ps5 looks so bad it takes away the atmosphere completely for me sadly. Tried the pc version and it's better but anything above 1440p gets me massive memory leak problems even on dlss performance on my 2080 Super

For Dead Space, YMMV, but on my PC (3080ti), I found that turning off motion blur, combined with using DLSS 2.5.1 in quality mode appears to have cleared up a lot of that blurriness from the VRS. At least a decent workaround until either devs patch in a toggle for VRS, or someone releases a mod for it.

I actually find it interesting when they let us know why things happen behind the scene. So thank you for the update.
