Coming This Week on Digital Foundry (Week 40, 2022) (Patreon)

Hi everyone, Rich here with your regular update on #content in the wake of this week's meeting. As Discord users will know, I've just spent the weekend benchmarking in preparation for RTX 4090, but before that, it's all about Intel Arc. Kinda curious about this one - our new benchmarking suite favours more modern titles running on newer APIs so I'm curious to see how the A750 and A770 (both now in-house) stack up.
All the comparisons are against RTX 3060, but with the Alchemist G10, we're talking about a 406mm2 processor here with 21.7bn transistors on a 6nm node. Compared against RTX 3070, which has a 17.4bn transistors on an 8nm node with a 392mm2 area... this sounds quite inefficient. Looking forward to seeing the results!
* Will is taking point on Intel Arc benchmarking - our comparison points will be 3060, 3060 Ti and 3070 along with 6600XT and 6700XT. He'll also be writing the text review for Eurogamer.
* Rich (ie me) will be putting the Arc video review together. You'll get a hint of what how our new benchmarking suite looks like and why we've chosen the titles we've chosen.
* John continues to work on the Final Fantasy 13 DF Retro and will be undertaking some smaller projects too. The Klonoa DF Retro episode will be available to all on Sunday and we'll arrange some early access for premium supporters.
* Alex is starting to put together new methodology for testing DLSS 3 and whatever other competing frame generation systems may or may not be in development. A key takeaway from the DLSS 3 first look was how people want to compare frame generation with reconstruction - eg DLSS 2, FSR 2, XeSS. They simply aren't comparable and it looks like we need to do a better job explaining why. Don't worry, we've got this!
* Tom is on vacation at the moment - we should have a better idea of what he's up to tomorrow when he's back.
* Oliver is currently working on the Nier Automata Switch port report. We're also considering No Man's Sky on Switch too for coverage.
* Audi has delivered the latest DF Retro Play - Retro Supporters should expect it very soon!
Anything else we should be looking at? There's a bunch of stuff going on at the moment - like (a hushed awe, please) path-traced Quake 1 - but do let us know what you think about the line-up and what else you think we should be looking at! Have a great week!
