Hullo all! Will here once more. It's time to submit your questions for this week's DF Direct Weekly. This episode is set to feature Rich and John, following their return from their holidays, alongside last week's host, Alex.

We'll also be taking a look at the week's news, so feel free to suggest a DF-relevant story if you'd like to get our take on it. So far, the recent GTA 6 leaks, the KOTOR indefinite delay and the Xbox boot speed increase are amongst the topics being mooted, but expect changes to the final news sheet as we hurtle towards our recording time towards the end of the week.

Thanks for your participation as always - these shows wouldn't be the same without your creative involvement!

Following the full Starfield gameplay reveal there has been much talk amongst the community regarding the animation work, more specifically the ways in which the eyes are handled for dialogue scenes. General facial movement is quite good imo (arguably better than Cyberpunk in some areas), but it's severely let down by the glassy 1000 yard stares that the NPC's give off during dialogue sequences Subsurface scattering and per object motion blur would improve these sequences but it almost certainly wouldn't be enough to get them out of the uncanny valley. How would you go about fixing this and do you think it could be improved before launch?

Key worry I have is that the issue is related to the animation rig in which case it's probably too risky to fix. But im not an animator so I cant say for sure

When playing on PC, what is your personal frame rate target? Do you always push towards the full monitor refresh rate, or are you happy to balance visuals for a "good enough" framerate. Personally I can't tell above about 90-100FPS

What's the longest any of your have gone without playing video games? Did life get in the way? Burnout?

Hey DF crew. This is a bit unrelated to the usual stuff but I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts. In your opinion which gaming company president/ceo has had the biggest impact on their respective company. Like for example moved their company forward the most. Or perhaps the opposite. And what about impact on the industry as a whole?

Considering that we are now expecting the Switch 'pro' to be more a new console as opposed to a mid-gen upgrade, how do you expect Nintendo to approach backwards compatibility and future releases with and on the current switch? Do you think they would try and maintain a length of cross-gen first party titles in order to keep the Switch's install base? Do you think Nintendo will keep the current Cartridge system or change to a new distribution medium? How do you think Nintendo will try to nudge people towards a new system?

Hi Guys, Looking at all the studios working on games right now, can you choose one that you are most excited to see what they are working on next? And also can you name one that you think is very under the radar but it's delivering great games?

Is from software going to sort out the shader cache slow down or the frame pacing, as a dedicated fan its almost game breaking on 3700x and a 3070. Do you have any inside info. Desperate df fan hoping.

The fully ray-traced lighting in Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition is amazing. Are there any other big games getting that treatment, whether upcoming or already released? It seems like a massive opportunity now that the three major AAA platforms can all handle ray tracing. Is the 4A engine somehow more efficient at ray tracing than other engines, or is something else holding back development?

Given that some people are unable to get a next gen console either due to supply or lack of cashola. Would you choose to play games such as Stray on a last gen console or a an existing pc with regard to the trade off between resolution, settings and shoddy pc ports or shader compilation issues?

What do you guys think about the rumors of intel alchemist is getting an internal evaluation regarding being canceled. What could this mean for consumers and enthusiasts?

Nico Simmons

I second this question from Christopher - I would also like to know DF's take on the Intel ARC drama situation. It seems rather chaotic from the outside.
