It's that time again. We're putting together the plan for DF Direct Weekly #57 and we'd love to have as many questions as possible in what looks like another dire week for actual discussion points.

We do want to talk about issues with the LG C2, Alex's investigation work on Unreal Engine 5, and quite possibly we'll be talking about the Criterion Need for Speed next-gen-only leak. And how about that Kingdom Hearts 4 confirmation eh? Further proof that Jensen's Prophecy is coming to pass - by which we mean the GeForce Now leak that thus far has a 100% accuracy rating. A Certain Affinity doing stuff for Halo Infinite? Is this really going to be another Battle Royale and if so, does Halo Infinite need one of those?

But we want more to talk about, so pile in with any questions and queries you may have. Did you know that we completely forgot about the Minecraft RT Xbox 'leak' last week until it came up as a question from a supporter? That turned into quite the discussion point, so maybe we've missed something. Also: it looks like the GPU shortage is easing up. Are you planning to buy a GeForce 3x00 card or a Radeon 6x00?

I shall end this post with the most over-used final sentence in the history of online journalism: "let us know in the comments below" or rather, ask your questions in the comments below.

The games that most effectively make use of the Switch hardware tend to be first or second party games from Nintendo or developers that (almost) exclusively develop for Nintendo. Looking over your Series S coverage, it seems third party developers don't always put in the best Series S optimizations. Do you think that the Series S will have a sort of Switch situation, where the games that use its hardware to the fullest are from Microsoft/Bethesda studios? For example, Forza Horizon 5 looks absolutely beautiful on the Series S compared to third-party Series S games.

For John, what is the optimal way to play Assassin's Creed IV in 2022. My laptop (i7-8750H, RTX 2070 Max-Q) can run Valhalla near ultra very well for the most part at 1080p, but getting a locked 1080p60 in Black Flag is oddly out of the question. This game unfortunately got skipped out from FPS boost and never got an X1X/PS4 Pro patch.

Should consoles have options to force V-Sync built-in at the OS level, the same way Nvidia control panel does on Windows PCs?

With the advent of online-based games and devs/ publishers wanting to push online experiences, why do devs create trophies that can only be achieved online during the game's life? why don't devs patch these at end of life or plan this in advance so that people can still have an opportunity to achieve the remainder of their achievements and complete a game? While understandably devs and publishers only make money during the game's life, why do they not care to keep a positive impression on people who play games like older "Forza Motorsport" or the soon-to-be "end of life online" PS4 game "Everybody's Golf?"

In the light of the Doom RT and Chrono Cross video, and having watched the Powerslave remaster video recently, I was reminded of CRT filters, in reshade and retroarch for example. Personally, I've been fascinated with CRT-Royale. I would love to hear John's views on these filters, especially CRT-Royale!

Did you hear about the ps5 inability to disable ALLM on supported tvs? As a fan of BFI i guess John is not a fan of that omission

Gentlemen, I hope I'm not too late in posting this one. But considering what you have found with Steam Deck allowing adequte Ray Tracing experiences when temporal upscaling is deployed strategically on RDNA2 at 15W. Now what do you say about the longevity of Series S in this generation when resolution target is 1080-1440p? Would you agree it's not getting the amount of love it deserves because developers are not prioritizing it against the big bros and its at a disadvantage of being on a locked platform compared to Steam Deck?

With regards to PC gaming, how do you guys handle with the tons and tons of heat these things output into your room? My newest PC makes my office turn into an oven that I have to slide open the window for but even that is an imperfect solution.

After hearing John extol the virtues of BFI, I decided that I should really give it a try. As the new owner of an LG C1, I was excited to try it out on my PS5 (knowing I would have to work around the new ALLM update). However, I was surprised to find out that I had to disable HDMI Deep Color entirely in order to turn on BFI. Losing all HDR support seems like too large a sacrifice for BFI. Do you anticipate Sony will ever fix this? A simple toggle option for ALLM would be an easy solution, but do enough people care for Sony to consider a fix? (Or is it just me and John?)

Do you think with CD projekt red switching over to unreal engine 5 for the Witcher 4, And the delay of the Witcher 3 remaster this week they will be moving development of that to unreal engine 5 as well or still use RedEngine ?

Any word from game developers on what the takeup of 60 FPS versus 30 FPS modes is in their games? I'm curious if most folks opt for more graphics or more frames. I'm cautiously hoping I'll get to play almost everything this generation in 60 FPS.

In regards to the question of "Are you planning to buy a GeForce 3x00 card or a Radeon 6x00?" the answer is Nope. (I even got an EVGA e-mail for the Nvidia Restock & Reloaded and while many of the newer (12GB) 3080 along with 3090, 3090Ti, and even a 3050 were at MSRP or even a discounted MSRP it all felt like too much money at this point in time. It was great to see MSRP from EVGA and stock thought! At this point in the generations it feels like a waste, so instead I am waiting to do a whole system refresh with an LGA based AMD CPU along with DDR5 and at the same time the expect PCI Express 5.0 slots on the motherboard, and hoping to also see ATX12v 3.0 be an option on the power supply I'll buy...whatever the current gen nVidia/AMD card is at the time is what I'll be looking for - wanting to move to OLED panel at 3840x2160 so I am certain it would be the xx80 or x800 or at that point.

Don't overclock your hardware, but undervolt it! Ramp up the fans a bit and cap your framerate.
