Hello everybody! Hope you are all having a fantastic week so far! This week, hopefully we'll get some GDC talk in and of course talk the latest news, but most important is of course the questions! Leave them in a comment below and perhaps it is YOUR name Rich will mispronounce this week!

Question for John: If you had to choose between 60fps with black frame insertion or 120fps without BFI which would you choose? Thank you all for your incredible work and insight!

Sony just announced that VRR support will finally be coming to PS5. Do you think VRR will become a critical feature this gen for those buying displays on a budget, maybe even more so than getting an OLED? Major releases like Elden Ring are struggling to hit framerate targets, while others like Dying Light 2 have added VRR specific modes on Xbox to allow higher resolutions targeting 60FPS. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Hi DF team, VRR has just been shown on ps5 hardware, great news. Will you doing a video testing some games where you've mentioned "this game could have really used VRR"? I think Elden Ring is an obvious first one, but I think even going back as far as dmc5 and various other games that sorely missed the feature will be interesting to see.

For temporal upsampling solutions, is there a quality improvement from a higher frame-rate since the frames are more similar and you have more recent history? Do you think that'll affect the quality tradeoff on fixed platforms like consoles going forward, choosing a more aggressive upsampling so you get 16 ms spaced frames instead of 33 ms?

Considering the popularity of the switch and the steam deck and the existence of lower end hardware in the series S, could Sony make a return to the handheld market. With the power budget is a scaled down version of either the prior or current gen consoles possible and or viable?

Hi DF Friends! How did Dizzy end up as the processing animation on random cheap ATM kiosks back in the 2000s? Is it related to how the Sonic ring sound ended up as a cash register chime?

Back in the the late 2000’s, I remember that we’d often get games on wii/PS2 that played completely differently to their 360/PS3 counterparts. Sometimes people would even go on to say the previous gen version was better. Has their ever been a version of a game for lower spec hardware that impressed you enough that you would play it over the then-current gen console? Maybe even a “little brother” port of a 360 game on the DS that was surprisingly better

In their description of upcoming VRR support for PS5, Sony specifically mentions compatibility with HDMI 2.1 displays. I'm using the Samsung NU8000 (Alex's display), which is a 2.0 display with Freesync support. Do you suspect their VRR implementation would still work on this TV, even though it's not HDMI 2.1?

Hi DF team! In the video where you talk about if it is possible to enable DLSS in a hypothetical Nintendo Switch 2 (or whatever) where you enfatized in the weaker Orin SoC model knew at the moment having 5w as power target was in need of more TOPs to operate well with the actual DLSS version, we now have a wide variation of Orin SoC configurations revealed which some of them found in Jetson Orin NX (8GB and 16GB models) seems to fit perfectly having enough TOPs to make DLSS in a reasonable time. Now I wonder what do you think about those Variations with a power target of 10w having around 100TOPs(max)? Do you think that 8GB will be enough ram given the amount of performance that it could have? And what do you think NS2 running at 20w in Dock Mode, would be possible to manage 20w with the actual little fan? Do you think the variation of Orin SoC for the next console could have RT cores knowing what Steamdeck can do with its power target and flexibility?

Earlier this week pre orders went live for the physical versions of the TMNT Cowabunga Collection, and to my surprise there was a listing for a PS5 version. What could a native PS5 version of a retro game collection like this offer that a PS4 Pro version or a Back Compat Plus version could not?

Hi DF, I'm an aspiring game developer myself and your content help me to understand much better the tech behind games, which I appreciate so much. My question is now that the Witcher 4 is confirmed to use UE5, do you get tired of games using UE? Like I'm become worried about the overuse of UE, instead of other engines like Unity, CryEngine or even In house engines, will this overuse make rendering tech stale?

Hello DF! I'm recently back to PC gaming and playing on a LG C1 in 4K. Using a 3060Ti and playing a game like Control with DLSS, should I use a 720p internal resolution to reach 4K at 60+fps, or is it preferable to use a 1080p internal resolution and 1440p output resolution and let the TV or GPU upscale to improve image quality? Thanks!
