Hey everyone - Rich here. As promised, I've put together some comparison shots of Rift apart running at 40fps, stacked up against the existing 30fps and 60fps modes. There's no fancy editing here,  essentially when I create a video I like to get my data in order first, and that's what you're getting here.

For Rift Apart, I played through the first two worlds, capturing and analysing everything. After that, I arranged all three game variations on the timeline, lining up the keyshots, adding the fps grids etc. Then I removed the fps grids for the comparisons, which sit in another series of sequences I can draw upon. With everything lined up, there's about 25 minutes of footage I can draw upon.

The files offered today are those sequences, the difference being they are running at full speed 120fps rather than the 50 percent speed seen in the main 60fps video. We don't tend to keep game audio for much of our videos, so the audio in these files is just a couple of channels of surround that may not even apply to those specific clips. Just think of it as placeholder. This is all about comparing the 30fps, 40fps and 60fps presentations - so there are three different videos to download and I've encoded h.264 and HEVC versions of each, for six in total.

Watching now. This is a remarkable upgrade, considering the modest frame rate improvement - genuinely more than the sum of its parts. The differences are far more pronounced in the downloaded video vs the original 1/2 speed YouTube video. Keep up the good work!

This was a fascinating watch. I'm actually quite torn between the 40fps and 60fps modes.
