Hi everyone - well this is it, the first episode of DF Retro we've put together since our Patreon relaunched as the Digital Foundry Supporter Program and this one pushes the boundaries further than anything we've done in the past. John Linneman and Audi Sorlie revisit the original Sony PlayStation launch - not just from its December 1994 beginnings in Japan, but across all three major territories: Japan, North America and Europe.

Not only that, but every launch game in every territory is covered, plus where there are competing console or PC releases, *those* are covered too - and certainly in comparison to Sega Saturn, there are some interesting surprises here. This is an absolutely monstrous episode, only possible thanks to your support - and of course John and Audi's extreme dedication to their craft! We hope you enjoy it!

DF Retro: Sony PlayStation Revisited: Every Launch Game Tested + Compared - JP/US/EU!

It's DF Retro's BIGGEST episode yet. John Linneman and Audi Sorlie revisit the launch of the Sony PlayStation from its origins in Japan to its eventual rollout across the globe - and in the process, assess every single launch title in all three territories, stacking them up against other versions on other systems. It's coverage without compromise. Audi is going to give us a livestream of his favorite CDI game, right?

Absolutely brilliant. Finished the episode almost in one sitting and whilst completely understandable to segment it for youtube, it was excellent having a single long form episode available, or at least available on the Patreon site. This episode is exactly the type of content I hoped DF Retro would produce following the Patreon relaunch and really represents value tier content with great editing and general production quality.

This is fantastic! This was my first console launch as an adult in the US, purchased for myself a couple months after release due to availability in my area. Still nothing that feels quite like the PS1 startup sound as it boots!

An incredible episode. Great work By John and Audi. Brings back great memories. Wipeout and Rayman were just amazing. Can't wait for that Rayman episode. From the original through to Castle Rock (still hands down the most creative platform level ever).

This was an absolutely amazing video and it brought back so many great memories for me. I was 19 when the PS came out (still have my original receipt from Electronics Boutique) and I remember being blown away by the graphics. Can’t wait for more videos. I worked at a Blockbuster during this era and it gave me access to the Jaguar, the Virtual Boy, and the N64 when they were out. Looking forward to seeing some of those in future vids

That was spectacular. And the longer it went on, the more I wondered how you guys managed to pull this video off and what in the world you were thinking taking on a project of this size lmao
