Coming This Week to Digital Foundry (Week 20, 2024) (Patreon)
Content
Welcome to the latest update from Digital Foundry, which - as usual - concentrates on what we're up to right now and what #content you should expect from us in the week ahead. Lots cooking and plenty of exciting stuff to look forward to:
Tom still has his Paper Mario coverage cooking, but will be pivoting to the Fallout 4 next-gen upgrade patch for consoles, which we understand will deliver a working quality/performance mode toggle. We're aiming to get this coverage out as soon as is humanly possible.
Oliver is ready to take on the Starfield display options upgrade due this week, but will also be cycling back to take a look at the final (?) few major triple-A cross-gen releases. It'll be Xbox Series S vs Xbox One X here to discover the level of cross-over that persists and the extent to which Series S should (hopefully) be pulling away.
John is going to be looking at the System Shock remake releases on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.
Alex is highly enthused about the Native PC N64 ports situation that's arising that allows for automatically generated PC ports to be created simply by dragging and dropping an N64 ROM. That's his primary focus for the week as we have yet to receive Ghost of Tsushima - historically this suggestions a 'review code on launch day' scenario but who knows?
Rich (ie me) continues background research along with a look at some memory benchmarking for Corsair - which in turn basically means creating a new suite of tests where you're CPU-limited, even with a Core i9 13900K running all P-Cores at 5.5GHz. Perhaps distressingly, this has proven to be far easier than expected.
A new episode of DF InDirect? We're working on it! Meanwhile, will is away at the moment, but we do have some great new merchandising products in development that I hope we can share soon, but in the meantime, if there's anything you'd like for us to take a look at, do let us know in the empty space beneath this post.
Have a great week!
