Become an agent in the service of all that is good and true in our latest Arcana Check, which allows you to step into the role of a Nightingale, a rogue subclass with paladin spells, terrifying skill with silvered weapons, and the ability to ferret out evil wherever it exists. Free PDF on below.

Nightingales gain bonuses to persuasion and intimidation checks when trying to root out evil creatures, have expanded utility with the paladin "Smite" spells, and are especially adept with silvered weapons.

Check out the PDF if you want to learn more.

Edit:
The Nightingale PDF has been updated to 1.0.1 to fix an error stating that they did not need to prepare spells.

Rules query: under Preparing and Casting spells it says "The rogue prepares the list of paladin spells that are available for them to cast" but in the RAI notes it says "Does not need to prepare spells", which is the intention? Given paladins are half casters, a one-third caster subclass based on pally spells is kinda powerful, so limiting them to a list of learned spells might be a good balancer?

Another point: I assume Creature of the Night kicks in at 7th level?

I added the RAI stuff pretty late into the production of this. I now understand that I did not know how Paladins work. They function the way paladins do re: prepping spells, so I'll fix that in 1.0.1 sometime today. (Power Chord: Death is getting a patch too). A Little Bird Told Me is meant to be mostly for flavor, ala the Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer's ability to persuade dragons. It unlocks at third level. Rogue archetypes get features at 3, 9, 13 and 17. It's a potentially powerful RP buff, but only in very certain circumstances. If it ends up being too strong, I'll taper it in a bit, or lower the buff. Because that feature is meant to be flavor, Nightingale's get Creature of the Night at level 3 at the same time. Check this space in a bit for 1.0.1 addressing the Paladin RAI issue. Thanks so much for reading this and for your comment! I appreciate it a lot.

You're right! Thanks for updating so quickly. I love the creativity that goes into your designs. A Little Bird Told me is a lovely ability and fits nicely with the Rogue subclasses getting new ways to use existing abilities/spells. I don't think that's too strong. If anything, I'd be more uncertain about Creature of the Night. Advantage on all Wisdom saving throws is pretty hefty - it equates to a +5, which is a lot. Compare to the Arcane Trickster, who gets 1/3 of the Wizard progression and some cool ways to use Mage Hand, or the (admittedly underpowered) Eldritch Knight, who gets 1/3 Wizard and a weapon that can't be disarmed and you can teleport to your hand as a bonus action. That said, it's basically a limited version of the Paladin's 6th Level Aura of Protection. Might have to give it a go in play. The rest of it is all solid. The 17th level ability to max damage on Hatred spells is especially cool and offset by the need to use an action to bypass Legendary Resistance. Is the max damage meant to apply just to the damage from the Smite or would it also affect the sneak attack damage?

It's meant to just apply to the smite, so that the nightingale has a reason to upcast the smites, but actual games (playtests always are shadowy parodies of real play) might prove this to be a little lackluster, in which case we'll look at letting the sneak attack ride along. I am a little worried about Creature of the Night being a bit powerful, but we reasoned the same as you re: Aura of Protection. We can always tone it down to a +2 bonus if it overperforms as advantage. Rogues with full paladin spell slots might be a bit strong, but paladin spells have always struck me as a bit disappointing. I'll keep my eye on how it performs, if it feels like the nightingale has too many resources, we can definitely pull in the number of slots it gets, or how many spells it can prepare. Thanks again for your feedback!

Also, apologies to my old DM duke. I was not preparing paladin spells last year. I was just grazing from the spell list and doing as I pleased. XD

Hey Guys, New patron here. I absolutely dig Thieve's Can't! It's funny and well drawn, as well as being in the exact niche for me, and many others, I have no doubt. Thank you for the great content! I look forward to seeing what you are coming up with in the future! Best Regards, Kurt Kier
