Slashfilmcast Patreon FAQs (Patreon)

Hey folks,

Dave Chen here. Thanks so much for taking part of the latest Slashfilmcast experiment: Our very first Patreon page! We are so excited you are here and psyched for what the future holds for the show. You are now a part of whatever comes next. 

I've seen a lot of similar questions being asked so I thought it'd be easiest to put together a quick FAQ and try to address them. I may add to these or pin this post if people have more relevant questions that pop up later. Alright, here goes:

Q. Why are you making a Patreon page?

Glad you asked! We wanted to figure out a way for big fans of the show (i.e. the Watchers, the Good Sitters, the Moneys Horse) to be able to contribute to the podcast while still offering something of value in return. We think the tiers we are offering are able to do that! 

Q. When will I be charged for the first time?

Patreon will charge you at the beginning of each month. The first time you will be charged is at the beginning of November. Once you are charged, you will get Patreon rewards through the end of that month. 

If your payment method is declined, you won't receive any Patron rewards until the issue is resolved. 

Q. How do I get my ad-free episodes and my bonus episodes in the comfort of my very own podcast app?

In addition to accessing bonus audio through the Patreon website or the Patreon app, every Patron has access to a unique, private podcast RSS feed. Just go to our main page at patreon.com/filmpodcast and click on "My Membership." Copy and paste the RSS feed into your podcast app and the new episodes should update automatically.

Q. How come there are no ad-free episodes on the feed right now?

Since no one is charged until November 1st, we won't start making ad-free episodes and After Darks until November.

Q. I see there's already a Bonus After Dark in the Patreon Podcast feed. What's up with that?

In order for the feed to be functional so that you can start subscribing to it in your podcast apps, we had to post at least one episode there, so we thought we'd throw one in there just as a bonus and to get the feed started. We hope you like it.

Q. I used to donate via Paypal. Will you still be taking Paypal donations? Should I switch over my Paypal donation to Patreon?

Yes, we will still offer one-time Paypal donations as well as subscriptions. For now, Paypal will be the only way we do official on-air shout outs, but that may change in the future.

As for switching from Paypal to Patreon, we recommend you do this just so you can have access to our Patreon rewards and updates. That said, use your own discretion. 

Q. I heard on this week's Slashfilmcast episode that you'll be releasing the After Darks for free through the end of the year. Is that true?

As a gesture of goodwill for all of our awesome fans who've donated for all this time for no Patreon rewards, we'll be releasing all our After Darks in Nov/Dec for free on the main feed. They will be posted later on the main feed than on the Patreon feed, so you'll get them earlier if you're a Patron.

Beginning in 2021, After Darks will be available exclusively via the Patreon. 

Q. Will the public, free podcast feed change at all?

Other than the bonus After Darks through 2020, the main podcast will not change in and it will always be free for all to download and listen to. It will likely always contain ads (if we're lucky enough to have advertisers), and we will probably mention the Patreon page a bunch more in our regular episodes from here on out. 

So, the main podcast feed will basically be unchanged.

Q. Will you ever offer a yearly membership?

Patreon recently announced the ability to offer annual memberships. While we don't have this feature at launch, it's very likely we will in the coming months. We'll let you know when we do. 

Q. The Money Horse tier is cool but are there really no additional rewards?

For now, that is correct. Aside from the triumphant knowledge that you are a Money Horse of the highest order.
