You guys are the most amazing people ever! We're starting to get in the payment for January and holy crap the support is just nuts. We've got a little bit of a backlog of videos at the moment, and we've picked up another intern to help with the workload. That is 110% thanks to y'all and your generous support, that we're able to do that. <3

We've got a preview of the monitor review going live tomorrow. And an update on the challenge to Level1 from Bryan Lunduke.

In case you are unaware, Bryan Lunduke (a "linux guy" in the community, writer of Uptime Funk lyrics, author, OpenSuSE board member, etc) and I have a little friendly competition going for who can put Linux on the most novel absurd thing ever.

I wanted to do a belgian waffle maker, but that was a little difficult to aquire inexpensively so I have opted for plan B. (Well, I'm exploring Plan B). [DotDot, the dot matrix printer robot, seems a little too close to Lunduke's own project! haha]

Plan B: The Hayes Smartmodem 1200 baud. I'm building a Modem Time Machine. Because if you're going to build a time machine, why not do it with some style? The slick all-alumium enclosure is perfect for my needs. I imagine the project will be successful if you can "dial" into the BBSes that have been archived. Any BBS in the database is just an (inconvenient) ATDT away. Hahahahahahaha.

^ Here is the video update on that. In the description is a link to Lunduke's video, and his current status as well.

What do you think, gang? Is a modem time-capsule cool enough to challenge an animatronic puppet?

Well, it is orders of magnitude nerdier than wiring up a puppet!

This is awesome. Please do it!

Although quite different, I think it's a more than viable competitor!

Re plan B, I posted the same thing on Youtube but thought I'd post here as well. I haven't watched the monitor review yet: I was trying to think whether it could beat the puppet. It's a brilliant idea, especially as it's educational as well as entertaining but it's not an animatronic puppet. Know what would, hands-down? Exactly the same idea but as an epic add-on, make a Docker image (or the like) that can play a multiplayer game with the modem that Lunduke can install on his puppet. I'm sure someone from the community, if not Wendell, will be able to make that happen. Whether literal multiplayer is feasible I'm not sure but playing the same game at the same time to see who has the highest score would work equally as well.
