OR: An Obsessive Hyper-Focused Look at Something Most People Will Not Notice Or Care About: A Memoir, by Me.   Summary: Hey all, my name is Krista and I'm a professional designer and a major fan of the works of #jrrtolkien. As most of you may have heard, Amazon has recently greenlit a new television show based around the Second Age of Tolkien's Middle Earth, called #theringsofpower. The show isn't out yet, but we're starting to get trickles of promotional material now; and as someone who works in the design and advertising industry, I've been more than a little puzzled by the show's marketing strategy over the last few months. This video is my attempt to recap the pieces we've seen in 2022 (barring some that were released post-recording) and the online reactions to them, along with my own exploration of how I might approach marketing this project.   Please forgive my incredible ignorance in how I pronounce words in both English and Elvish, I think I managed to mangle even basic pronunciations in a few parts of this video haha.  And finally: This is a reminder to be kind and constructive when discussing the show in the comments. Thanks!

Firstly, loved this marketing breakdown video. Secondly, this should be a recurring segment called Krista’s Complaint Corner. Thirdly, should we get you a fresh copy of the books?

I have a newer copy now! Hardback this time so it's not as abused haha. I am "neutral evil", which is why my paperbacks always look so trashed: https://twitter.com/Kreestuh/status/1231646055000936448

I want to see a breakdown of the characters and costumes once it is out. This is so cool and different. You are speaking to your fan base, do more of these.

As another servant of the Amazon Prime membership I'll probably take a peak at it but after the Hobbit turned from 2 movies into 3 terrible movies I lost almost all faith in another LotR film/series ever being anything other than a cash grab. Sad to see it go this way but they can't take away my books. I'll remain pessimistic, again look at the Hobbit, that way anything mediocre or better will seem watchable.

I was a background actor in the TV series. It was amazing and the artists and all involved were really trying their hardest with just a giant amount of money being sent. If it sucks, which it kinda looks like it will, it will be because of the story line they have chosen. I still want to believe it will be wonderful but I guess it will be a fizzle.

Hey I think we talked on twitter a while back! I also hope it's just a bad PR firm that's bungling their marketing, but at least from a book-lover perspective I'm still not won over, unfortunately. It may still be a good general fantasy show, just not a great Tolkien one. I'm sure it was a cool experience working on the set either way! - k

UPDATE: We will be releasing this one publicly since it did well on both Patreon and Floatplane. The watch-along content like Picard will still be exclusives.
