FYI based on my understanding as a non muslim. Jihad loosely translates to ones struggle. Which can mean struggling against ones inner demons and the effort bettering themselves or society in the eye of God. However it more commonly used in terms of taking up arms in a religious war. Fatwa on the other hand is opinion on a point of Islamic law by a scholar, it's non binding.
