No matter how many times I've seen the birthday video message clip for Hobi... I cry every single time.

what you said about rm and suga actually while there are aggressive tracks its not every song i think youll sonically find a few songs you really enjoy in their first mixtapes. a lot of people just call it aggressive but its more-so angry than aggressive and anger doesnt have to be loud or in your face it can be emotional/slow too :)

Twix are the best!! Fun fact that video of Suga handwrtiting 300 messages for fans for HIS birthday is what made me a Suga bias. I found BTS in early 2016, but went to the beginning of their career and spent 3 months binging and catching up. Mostly in order. Before that video I had really come to love Suga's lyrics and production, but most of what I had seen off camera he seemed a little "2 Cool 4 Skool." That video made me actually tear up and realize no! He's actually a little sqish! and I have been whipped ever since... Also I have literally no idea what JHope's iconic bird dance is. I no longer question and only support him no matter what XD XD XD

Sorry for this novel... I'm a really big BTS history buff, so I love this sort of content and sharing info... With this episode in particular, it's helpful to remember that Rise of Bangtan is a story told through editing... so the sections where people are talking about how kpop works (in general), or is perceived by the general public (whether or not those perceptions are true or universal), the clips showing BTS are either contrasting with what's being said, or showing that they do fit into some aspects of generalized kpop things. While BTS does go against the norm on some things, they aren't completely outside the box. In terms of the rules and standards applied to idols, we don't know what was in BTS's contracts, but what they've said over the years is that they understand that those standards are because they're role models and that some rules are meant to keep them safe (I think it was Jin who likened it to the rule of stopping when you see a red light - basically, follow the rules that make sense and allow society to function)... but that they're also human. With the living in the dorm thing - since all of BTS were from outside of Seoul (except arguably Jin, who was already there for university), they didn't really have the option of living at home. One thing that we found out in the book that came out recently was that Hobi was actually signed to BigHit before RM was, but they didn't have any facilities for him to live in Seoul, so they had him stay in Gwanju and send regular training reports - it wasn't until they found RM and decided to make Bangtan that they rented a dorm and moved Hobi up to Seoul to join RM, Suga, and the rest of the trainees (who were all rappers at that time). So, RM was the first member of BTS and the first to live in the dorm, but Hobi was already a trainee under BigHit. The song from RM at the end was part of a show he was on called 4 Things, and it was the show that basically did a little biography of him at this time - starting with the hate tweets/comments and then exploring his life being torn between the underground hip hip world and the idol world. That's why there's a little MV for "Unpack Your Bags" which is a song he wrote for the show, and also a kind of response to his cover of Too Much which he had released on Soundcloud earlier that year and was about him at his lowest. Suga had an end-of-year curse for a while. In Dec 2012, he was in the car accident that ruined his shoulder, in Dec 2013 he experienced appendicitis while in Japan (which he then FLEW back to Korea with, where his healthcare would be covered - which is just insane, because you aren't supposed to fly when you have active appendicitis) and, perhaps unsurprisingly, he ended up with an infection and was in and out of the hospital all the way into January. In Dec 2015, he and Tae both were under the weather (in Japan again) and they had to cancel a concert. In Dec 2016, he tripped in the dorm and busted his ear open and couldn't wear in-ears until it healed, so had to miss performances. Then he may have finally beaten the curse, because the next time he was out wasn't until 2020 when he had elective surgery for his shoulder, but that was his choice rather than an accident (and also long overdue).

I also wish that I would have been there from the beginning...

wow i didnt know all of this. also didnt suga explain in a letter on twitter through multiple tweets why he was out in dec 2015. i believe he may have mad panic attacks im not sure if tae was sick or was helping him. (they both couldve been sick with other stuff i just remember reading that on twitter as well as in his song the last the concert he couldnt finish matched with the timeframe)

I think you’d really enjoy their earlier mixtapes/soundcloud stuff! There are a lot of hidden gems and I was surprised at the mixture of heavy aggressive rap and soft introspective songs, even a bit of catchy fun music. They’ve always been good at writing diverse kinds of music - obviously you can see the immaturity at times but that’s also part of what makes it so cool for me, seeing how they grew up/developed over time. :) Maybe for patreon you can think about doing more full concert reactions? (After the discography if you don’t want spoilers). The memories dvds could also be fun? Also, there are still at least 3 documentaries left to air in 2024: JK’s golden docu, Jikook travel show and Hope on the Street, so there’s a lot to look forward to!

I’m looking forward for every BTS contents! Can you please add BTS on You Quiz, Let’s BTS, and BTS Tokopedia on your list? 💜

The panic attack theory is speculation and was never confirmed. I DO think it's a pretty good theory, based on Suga's letter about the incident where he seemed to blame his own "weakness" and the content of The Last (but the concert mentioned in the last could have also been a pre-debut concert for all we know). Tae was less openly remorseful about the cancelled concert than Suga, and said later that he felt fine and thought he could have performed, whereas Suga was pretty silent until his super remorseful twitter letter a few weeks later - However, officially the story was and has remained that he and Tae were both suffering from dizziness and couldn't perform, so I don't really want to spread incorrect information by stating boldly that it wasn't that... even though the other story is a very popularly held ARMY belief. I had been hoping they'd mention it in the book or the docuseries, but they didn't, so we only have the official statements at the time to go off of until we're told otherwise.

Id love to see you react to some Memories DVDs, maybe 2019-2010-2021-2022 as they're more recent, or finishing the NOW series and doing the Summer/Winter Packages, or maybe some Concert DVDS with the behind the scenes stuff too, and the of course we have new stuff coming out, Jimin and Jungkooks travel show should be coming out sometime soon!!

That part where RM was reading hate comments pissed me off so much. What was emphasized was mainly the lyrics of their songs, and I’m here like “who (to the people that said that if they aren’t in the music industry or don’t write their own lyrics) r u to judge whether its lyrics or not if you aren’t even writing lyrics yourself?” Like if you think it’s so easy and you think you could do better, by all means you go do it yourself. And it also makes me think haters gonna hate, haters need more positivity in their lives for goodness sake (and here I thought I was always negative) or find something productive to do

tori

ah its only a theory wow i wish armys wouldnt spread theories as facts cause ive went 5ish years thinking it was confirmed. thank you for telling me !! :)

I too wish that I was an ARMY from the beginning. Glad that I discovered them still early in their career. I could recall those days of me defending them with the people in my life. Anywho, I too am not into rap music. But I am into BTS, RM, Sugar and Hobi's rap. 💜💜💜 Regarding other content, how about their Festa content? Like from the first Festa. The talks, dinners, etc. With the upcoming Festa, I am so looking forward to it. Especially that Seokjin will be out by then. Borahae!
