I definitely recommend watching the Oneus and the boyz performance with subtitles. The lyrics fit great. The whole performance was the process of debuting. They had the hand mike because they were auditioning, the mirror for dance practice, clothes for styling etc. I also feel like people may have voted strategically. If I was hoping for a group to win against the Boyz I would rank their performance last.

The member of VERIVERY you were talking about is Yeonho - The only "live" episode is the last because it was the final - PENTAGON/ONF friendship is still strong. It's actually the most wholesome friendship coming from ROAD TO KINGDOM in my opinion. A lot of them are close to each others now, for example Hui/J-US (this episode you even see one PTG member joking saying to Hui to think about PENTAGON before J-US), not too long ago Hui was also in J-US live on WEVERSE, they reunited today and some said they were glued to each others. Hongseok and Wyatt (who both took their shirt off last time) are gym buddies, first thing Wyatt did after finishing his military service was going to the gym with Hongseok, they took a picture together not too long ago. Shinwon and MK are close too. Big Yuto (PENTAGON) and Little Yuto (ONF) were both trainees in JYP so they were already close to each others (they are also close to Bangchan because of that), this year they were MC together for the show call Klobal. PENTAGON and ONF were both at KLOBAL LIVE 2023 today (Key was here too) so they reunited on stage PENTAGON and ONF together are just adorable, back when ONF won their first win, PENTAGON called during one live and congratulated them. Actually even both fandoms are wholesome together, both helped each others to get PENTAGON/ONF first win on music show, the atmosphere between the two fandoms is just so good and cool - J-US stage name is composed of "J" which come from his name "Seungjun" and US (group/fans) but he use Seungjun more often now. He is definitely a total cutie. Hyojin and him are both leaders but also best friends , Hyojin and J-US were friends since middle school and went to different high schools but somehow ended up in the same company and debuted as the 2 leaders of ONF. They even got ONF first win on the day of their 14th anniversary of friendship. They’re also neighbors - Talking about BLACKPINK cover, PENTAGON covered LOVESICK BOYS and I know it was pretty popular if you are interested. - Hui participates in writing and producing a majority of Pentagon's songs, most notably "Shine", "Naughty Boy", "Daisy", and "Do or Not". PENTAGON is actually know to self produce, so not only Hui take part but also the others members participate, a lot of them are credited. Hui is a well know producer, he did songs for others groups, one popular is ENERGETIC for WANNA ONE - Mentionning A.C.E, I will just say A.C.E / ONF are pretty close, not sure for ONEUS/A.C.E but they were all in the YG survival show called MIXNINE. - For the ranking, I do think the song choices played a part, but I think, strategy might be involved too since THE BOYZ were first, if you want to take over them - 2ND PART : I like ONEUS and ONF performance, TOO performance is my least performance in ROAD TO KINGDOM. ONEUS might have lacked with the storyline a bit on their performance but I liked how they arranged BE MINE. If I'm not wrong when I watched the stage back then, I was able to understand it was about Romeo and Juliet when he mentionned it but also with the logo of the house when he was cutting between them. ONF It's Raining is actually one of my favorite performance from ROAD TO KINGDOM, It's Raining is so hard to make it your own and change it since it was done for Rain personnally but they did such a great job in making it their own song. I love the fact they showed their old performances at the beginning, also had at the start of the performance Hwanghyun (who helped with the arrangement) and their Choreographer Youngoh, two people who really helped them since the start of ROAD TO KINGDOM. Putting COMPLETE was such a great move, the end always get me so hype, it's like a festival.

Thank you! That's the only down side to watching the full episode. No lyrics. But I like seeing the other groups reactions too. SO i'll have to go check out the lyrics myself.

I think the YouTube version has lyrics. I went and watched it after I saw the episode and it made me appreciate their performance more!

small fun fact: the girl oneus had on stage with them is yuki from purple kiss 😊

As a non MJ fan I'm usually cringe when it comes to covers or tributes to him cause like you said they are overdone. I think the boys mentioned it, that Rain and his career is like a "Korean Michael Jackson" where his music and dance is so iconic in Korea and in Asia so thus the fusion of Rain x MJ x and their own music because it's just so hard to cover someone like that. But I think their performance gave a nice fun twist as Rain's popular hits did really have that 2000's touch to them so can seem a bit corny now. Also yes Hui does a lot of producing for Pentagon but so do other members, Cube has their iconic producers for each group though others do make great hits so it's usually Hyunsik (known as the Father of BTOB's music), Hui of Pentagon and Soyeon for G-Idle that usually people first think of when it comes to Cube groups sound. I came into the show for Pentagon but ONF really captured my heart and their cute friendship with each other that more so started on the show and is still strong today makes me really love these two groups.

Honestly TOO did better with hard carry than oneus did with be mine imo. The song was pretty good for oneus but it felt like they didn’t want to do this song or this concept… I’m not saying that they didn’t want to do the song or the concept… but it didn’t have the same energy and impact as they have with all their other performances. It never fully clicked with the story … and I think it would have been better to go with a concept.. like TOO did… instead of a storyline… especially bc other than him thinking she’s dead when she wasn’t was really the only part of it that felt Romeo and Juliet storyline…. Like you could feel that this song wasn’t their choice bc of the performance. TOO really brought the energy and the spirit for almost the whole performance… and especially being such a young rookie group… they were definitely performing for their lives… they added a lot of wow elements.. and I love big street dance themes like that too… especially loves the black light effect with their clothes and stuff… the grill and fake dread like hairstyle did make me cringe… but maybe that was his choice and maybe it was a stylists.. but yeh that part was bad… but I thought they killed it especially since they didn’t choose that song… I never would have guessed from how they performed..

Rains been known as the “Korean Michael Jackson” lol the addition of their instrumental, the easy to follow story, the dancing… the song arrangement was absolutely perfect… I’ve seen a lot of MJ covers and like I said … they chose MJ bc of rains similar style and sound… so doing his song but not wanting it to JUST be seen as rains song… the mj additions and their own song additions really accomplished that.. it was the song… but so much more on top of it… they’re synchronization was crazy the stage presence… that stage was the whole package for sure…. They absolutely crushed that .. but from what you said.. it sounds like you weren’t going to like it no matter what it sounded or looked like just bc of the added MJ flair.. so it makes sense for that mindset that it will be hard to win you over regardless .. can’t win them all right? That’s the fun in these shows and variations !!

1:47:28 you stopped paying attention at the worst time lmao that hip roll would have gotten a pause and rewind FOR SURE I think lol all they’re reactions at the end were hilarious and cute. Seems like everyone was all of a sudden afraid of ONF after such an impressive performance… they said they couldn’t remember what the original sounded like after… and earlier nobody wanted that song bc it would be near impossible to make it their own… so that’s pretty big praise coming from the others. Wonder what the original team was going to do with that song… so curious if they had ideas for it already and concept and stuff

Oh my god! I am so happy you like Yeonho (in Verivery) because he has "cute" teeth. It's funny because I'm honestly particular about teeth, but I fell in LOVE with him because of his teeth and that he embraces his teeth to not meet our stupid "perfection" standard we created. His smile is infectious. He's so adorable. He also can siiiiiing and is just such a sweetheart.

But what about Hui's live vocals while crying and trying to sing during Jinho's send off lmao I think that was the first time in the whole show I was like "oh wow live vocals...and they're crying". Him and Hongseok even harmonize while sobbing hahahah With that said the performance with Oneus and The Boyz is one of my favorites. I think it's very sentimental and beautiful. They were delivering a story every KPOP member has experienced and "the show must go on" for all of them. They're wishing for all groups to continue on with their journeys. I still preferred the Kill This Love performance, but this was a very close 2nd place to them for me personally.

SirAustin

I forgot about that moment because it was so hard to watch. But you're right! :( That was a whole other category of vocals tho. Heart breaking.

KPOP Stan Sara

But I also wonder how much of hearing the vocals was the singers' choice. For example in this episode when Pentagon and ONF did their stage, you see the scene where Kino snatches his mic to be closer to his mouth for his part. He actually got REALLY annoyed over this because he wanted the mic to be in the proper spot and didn't want the adjustment to be seen on camera (it was discussed on some kind of behind the scenes content). So, I'm under the assumption they all sing, but some reason the backing track seems to be SO loud of most performances.

I had the same impression while Oneus' performance. It felt like they have to deal with the leftovers , although the idea and the concept was real good and they danced great, their vocals were good, but something was missing.

Kame

This episode was great. Too's Hard Carry performance was great, ONF surprised me with this awesome performance, although I agree with you about MJ themes and tributes are overdone. This performance as whole with the addition of their own song the arrangement in general made it really good. I am curious what Pentagon would have made out of it. Oneus had a good idea to make this iconic Infinite song in their own style, but it felt like they didn't like the song and have to deal with it (like leftovers . It was a solid performance but not my fave on the show. I was surprised that Too and Verivery were 2nd, but I ranked the performances just the same. The Boyz and Oneus did a great job, the lyrics are great, but the song itself is not my cup of tea. It's maybe because I am not a fan of most female artist in K-Pop in general. IU, some Boa songs and some Taeyeon songs are the only exceptions. And I have to say that Pentagon and ONF made a great job. I like it more than the original song. I think it's because Blackpink songs have this special vibe and arrangements that fit well with Boygroups . Now I am excited to see what Pentagon made with MonstaX and The Boyz with Shangri-La by Vixx. Verivery doing Mamamoo will be fun.

Do you know what date the live is of Hui and J.US together. I’m trying to find it so I can watch it

T Hitsuga

Hui is wonderful, he's one of those geniuses within kpop, he's already composed hits for other groups like energetic from wannaone, and for the group itself, in addition to producing, Pentagon is a very unfair group, and being from the horrible company that is cube isn't either Help, at least Hui's recent solo debut was a success he deserves.
