Now check the cover photo (one of my most popular ever and my first "Best of Russia" win) and you will see that it's different. No wall behind the model, no texture, and light is not coming from the side, it's frontal. 

Exactly! I took this portrait from the balcony, through the balcony's door. Model is a little bit away, to avoid direct sunlight. And aperture is 2.5 to make the wall behind the model totally blurred. 

Another example, very similar. Check the final result (very glamour) and behind the scenes. Yes, I told models to stay in the doorway and my students made some shots from the outside.   

Same room, different approach.

PS Sometimes I use black curtains on the backwall to make background black.
