I was somewhat underwhelmed by this adventure when it first came out. It felt frustratingly incomplete, with lots of allusions to other places and the wider castle, none of which appeared in any other supplements. Then came the Dragon reworking, with Rob adding a tantalising story behind the Maure family which really seemed central to the Greyhawk story, and I was hooked. More frustration has followed as that story, so full of promise, was never fully realised and remains an enigma with little prospect of fulfilment. I would dearly love to see Rob take this up again, although I appreciate the reasons this will likely never happen. Overall, along with the linked Lost City of the Elders, this has the potential to be one of the greatest Greyhawk adventures, but has fallen short, rather like Castle Greyhawk always did…
