Retrospective: From the Ashes

I take a look at one of the more divisive boxed sets in the Greyhawk product line, From the Ashes (and, necessarily, Greyhawk Wars). 0:00 What's today's video about? 0:33 From the Ashes 12:27 Thanks Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfpYI8JymTfgyp30X2kkmzA/join Interested in sci-fi, fantasy, and horror? I have to say that when this came out, I was not a big fan. I thought the timeline advancement was interesting but wasn't fond of the vast changes to the setting. As I got older and re-read things though, I tend to agree with Mr. Kuntz. Carl Sargent got it. I didn't get to read the Dragon articles until years later, but when I did, the Gygaxian influence seemed to be in the Ashes set.

Now, years later, I use it to propel 576cy adventures with some foreshadowing and preventable adventure themes. So I am still not a 100% fan of it, but it is a useful tool.

I am where you were, Earl. I haven’t had a chance to read the Gygax Greyhawk articles from Dragon yet and still see it as somewhat of a scorched earth attempt at Gygax removal… for now. Opinion subject to change.

Releases like WG7 didn't help the situation.

I absolutely loved this when it came out. Between this and City of Adventure, I had everything I needed to run a really exciting campaign without too much work.
