Last summer, I went on a trip to the mountains in France. During one of the hikes we did, Arjen took a picture of me that is now one of my favorite pictures that anyone has ever taken of me. Something about the lighting, sense of scale and details just made it feel so special! I also wanted to practice my shapes a bit after the mountain studies challenge last month. I felt like there was room for improvement in drawing patches of snow on mountains, so I used the picture Arjen took as a starting point for a quick mountain study, with a focus on creating flowy and buttery shapes.

Mountains are a recurring theme in my work because I love how beautiful they are but I feel like I never quite succeed in painting them. Gotta keep practicing!

First of all: I MADE IT INTO THE PATREON‼️ Now that THAT'S out of the way, that photo—Let's go, Arjen! I assume that's the hubby. He did a superb job snapping that shot. As far as the painting, I must say it's a beauty. The smudgy, vertical striations tie the piece together.
