March has flown by! It's time for me to participate in the monthly challenge for flame members🔥This month we made some tree studies together! This is my take on the challenge. I tried to focus on using expressive and stylized shapes, and it was a lot of fun. I feel like one of these is inspired by the Ori games >_> I am officially obsessed.

If you created artwork for this challenge but haven’t shared it in the discord server yet, definitely hop in and post your study in the monthly-challenges channel!

Flame members will also get the full process video today, plus a resource with some tips and advice for creating tree sketches. That’s coming up in a minute, so keep an eye on the feed! I’ll also be posting next month’s challenge on April 1st - no joke! Just like last month’s challenge, it will include:

  • Tips and suggestions
  • Reference images
  • Inspiration images
  • A list of resources to help you complete the challenge
  • A bonus challenge for those who want to invest more time

If you want to participate and you’re not yet a flame member, be sure to upgrade your membership (ideally around the 2nd to avoid double charging) to get access to the challenge!

For now, I hope you like these sketches ❤ Hope you all have a fantastic week!

They remind me of Disney animated movies from the 80s and 90s. I like them very much, especially the red one ❤️

thank you! I'm a huge fan of the look of animations from back then. they were very earthy and stylized!

I just have to say thank you so much for having such a unique artistic vision and embracing it. I often get comments about how “out there” my art style is, but seeing your amazing drawings keeps me motivated to stick with my own work. You’re amazing!

Ooh I love these! I especially love how you render the trunks. Such cool twisty lines :)

thanks sam! you gotta do what feels right to you in the end. watering down your style to please others is gonna leave you feeling disappointed in your own work!

These are gorgeous. They’re so expressive and have otherworldly angles to them that add such a sense of wonder. The big leafless one in general is giving off major hexxus tree from fern gully vibes to me. So I may have a favorite lol. Either way I love these and enjoy seeing your mind be free to be able to feel like you can twist and turn things to your hearts content without worrying about client input.

thanks so much! that actually does mean so much to me - being ableto stylize however i want. it's a huge privilege! and it's of course all thanks to my patrons, so thank you :)
