The year progress is already at 8%! Can you believe it? Here's how this month went for me:

SLOW START TO THE YEAR

I was super pumped to start the new year and start working on my goals right away, but I ended up coming down with the flu and I spent the first week of the year on the couch with a box of tissues! It took me a little while to recover and catch up with everything that I wanted to do, but now I’m back on track and really excited to start working on my artistic and career goals for this year!

TRYING A NEW WORKFLOW

I mentioned last month that one of my artistic goals for this year is to do more loose, free sketch sessions where I allow my imagination to flow more freely. As a result, I created a few sketches that I decided to rework into more detailed lineart. You all probably know that I am not a big fan of working with lines and I tend to go straight from sketch to color! But right now I’m really enjoying adding more detail to the lines, so that means I’m gonna have to try a different workflow than my usual to finalize these. It’s gonna be a lot of trial and error, but it feels exciting to try something new! Here’s a little preview of how those sketches are turning out:

I'll be sharing more of that process next month! How has this first month gone for you? Is 2023 shaping up to be a good year so far?

I'll be sending out the DM's with the patreon content later today, so keep an eye out for it ❤

The sketches are really cool, I’m very curious what you’re gonna do with them further. Also the 8% is really a reality check 😳 is it me or does the time go faster and faster the older you get?😬

haha yeah i definitely feel that way! years just go by in the blink of an eye. i definitely want to fully render out the sketches but i have to figure out a workflow that doesn't completely paint over them!

These look insane! How long did each of these sketches take?

I cannot get over that January is over already! Time flies man. It's been a slow start for art for me so far as well. Not with a sickness per se, just more like I can't get myself to execute new ideas. Hopefully, I'll have better luck next month. I also need to stop spending so much time on one piece, I get bored with the same piece so quickly now.

oh wow. You're making me want to do more pencil sketching. I haven't touched a graphite pencil in ages.

these sketches look amazing! January 2023 has been good, I haven't had much art time (we've been in Australia!) but I've actually been creating a lot of little postcards for the people in Aus so it's been fun to make those. I'm excited to get stuck in my art practice when we're back though :)

oh yeah, feeling that way is always a great cue to switch up your workflow!

the sketch itself only took like 20-30 minutes.. but cleaning them up digitally is taking me a while! i'd say i spent about 8 hours on each one at this stage!
