Hello patrons! This month's tutorial is going to be about social media - specifically about how I prep and schedule my social media posts! I'm hoping that it will be a helpful resource for anyone who wants tips for how to turn their art into engaging social media posts.

So I wanted to know: do you have any questions about how I create my social media posts? Are there specific struggles you have when it comes to this topic? I'd love to hear it! I will try to address those topics in the tutorial. Thanks so much ❤

I’m coming back with a second question, and that is selling on Instagram. How do you go from offering free information to selling without feeling icky? How often would you sell so as to not be considered spammy?

Hey! I love this topic, since I am struggeling a lot with social media. 1. How do you avoid getting burned out. I always have times where I have a lot of content to post and then nothing for 2-3 months because I'm working on bigger things. Then the pressure of not posting builds up, algorythms drop you and that takes the whole fun out of it. 2. How do you choose which platforms you're on and do you post more on some then on others? I have given up on instagram, since I don't feel like you can make genuin connections on there. Likes are very anonnymus and comments are often just one emote. I've liked twitters art community.... but that is going down the drain as well :'D 3. How often do you clean your timeline/feed, meaning, deleting old posts or drawings 4. Do you use any third party software for posting on multiple platforms? I prefer posting on desktop but for some apps you can only use your phone and getting images from your PC to your phone is a mess :') How do you deal with that? Probably also relevant for artists using an iPad + Windows Laptop. 5. As what do you see social media, meaning is it a funnel for your patreon or a marketing tool for your art/brand (excuse the corporate speak :'D) or a way to connect with other artists. For me it's a mix of all, but I feel like the connection part is getting phased out by most platforms. I really like patreon so far since the people who are subscribed, really engane with the creator.

Hey Lois :) I'd like to hear advice for avoiding getting disheartened. I really struggle to find time to even make the art I want, let alone dedicate loads of time to an online presence! The internet feels to me like a big oversaturated impossibility sometimes, especially as someone with ADHD. I'm very creative and have decent skills but have zero business smarts and really struggle with consistency and with building any sort of following. It just feels like there is no point trying most of the time and that the general content out there with lots of engagement is largely just forgettable and pointless. You have a huge and highly deserved following now after starting online when you were younger, but what would you say to someone entering the mess of algorithm based social media that exists now? How on earth is it possible to be successful? I am mystified haha!

Ditto, I work all day and any free time is eaten up by house work, wife functions, or other unexpected events. My drive has waned yet I still want to do art. What's the best advice you can give on this?

Hi Lois! I've found lately that by trying to be consistent with posting to social media it's been taking a lot of my energy away from creating new art/getting into a creative headspace. Last week I tried preparing posts for the week across different platforms and scheduling them ahead of time rather than doing it throughout the week. I'm not sure if this will help the issues I've been having yet. I don’t really have a problem with coming up with things to share because I have a backlog of things that I can turn into reels/tiktoks. Maybe the problem is that I’m trying to be TOO consistent and I’m posting more so to keep up with the algorithm rather than because I have something I really want to share? 🤔 It feels like a vicious cycle that makes me feel more drained than inspired. 🥲 How do you balance your time creating and sharing to social media? What are some things you do to prevent yourself from feeling overwhelmed?

I would like to know how do you plan your post in social media and how you balance it with the process of creating What needs every social media changes: what kind of content(photos, reels, histories..), best hour for posting, posting frequency needed... How you distribute your days in a week to paint and also recording, editing, thinking in the posts... Time managing and planning what to do seems important to be able to post regularly quality content

Hey Erika! I feel the same way: the mental energy + time I would put on creating videos would take away from creating art, which is the whole reason I was making videos in the first place. I've tried allocating certain activities to certain days, but it's a constant struggle. I highly relate to that!

You have so many comments, compliments and questions and I imagine you receive a lot of emails. How are you not feeling overwhelmed by constant interactions ? Do you like this part of your job ? I am so curious about it ! For me, It always feels like a burden so I stop social media (and I a feel a lot better haha ).

Does the way you see your artwork change after you post it ( If it receive less likes you like it less ? and inversely )

How to respond to a constantly shifting algorithm? What resources are there to find out about changes to the algorithm? How you you prepare artwork for a posting schedule? Do you make art to fit the content your followers want or post whatever you've made?

Hi Lois, as a not that big profile on insta, I have two dilemmas. 1) To start a small business, what do you recommend to get into it? and how should I get people to think about buying? I never know how to talk to people in my posts because I'm afraid of asking too many questions and not getting an answer… 2) How can I decently connect with people? you think showing your face can help? I hope you will be able to consider these questions! thank you!❣️✨

Hi Lois Things that would intrest me, are which quality do you use for posting on Insta and Deviantart and how do you deal with someone who tries to gain money or attention from your artwork? How do make sure your art is protected. Best wishes and have a lovely day! Cara

there are social media managing apps you can use to batch prep, and pre post a months worth of content if you wish.. with full premium accounts you could in theory, schedule an entire years worth of automated posts... assuming you had the content and the time to do the posts prior... it makes more sense to maybe spend a day or two every couple weeks and tackle the stuff you want in the future, but you can even set times, etc for all these... and it makes it much easier to type out all your text vs trying to do it on your phone... I personally have not gone this route yet because im not that confident in my work nor do i have the content to post... however if you are and have the extra money a month, they are incredible tools to take a lot of the weight off of you for the most part of the month or year if you dedicate more time up front to take care of what you need to put out there.
