Hii hii, thanks for the tutorial, really helpful and answered few of issues I had :D With that another question born, what about expressions that changes the basic shape like "shocking" or "disgust" it's basically changes the base shape and the elements on the face, how to keep the same face with such extreme emotions?

Loish

happy you liked it! that's definitely a situation where you need to apply some "squash and stretch," where you exaggerate the basic shape of the head a bit without changing the readable, identifiable aspects of it. here's a simple example: https://jbaxteranimator.tumblr.com/post/109817223324/hey-there-im-interested-in-animation-but-im

I've tried a lot of tutorials from different artists and platforms this year but your videos are on another level - I love how you explain even the smallest details (this dark eyes and gaze thing was really helpful!) and the way you speak to your students is so inviting yet concrete! ♥ Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, finding your tutorials was one of the best thing in my artistic life! :D PS: you look really glowy and rested! ♥

Loish

thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoy these, this compliment means a lot to me because I've never really vibed with technical tutorials and I really try to make the tutorials more like an open and honest conversation!

Thank you for another great tutorial. 💞 I really enjoy the video-essay-like character of your tutorials, especially the more recent ones. This combination of practical how-to and demonstration along with more (design)theoretical or mindset related observations makes them special and very rewatchable.

Wow. Just wow! I learned a lot from this tutorial. I've been making portraits for quite some time now, and I tend to go over detail and never thought of getting the shape of the face first. I will apply what I learned from this tutorial to my portrait sketches.

2023-01-16 05:50:54 I feel I’ve not yet got an established style, yet my followers tell me they know my work straight away… I’ve concentrated more on building my skills than developing my style, this has been something that’s come of late. I find it interesting when I’m hired for a job, purely as the studio or art director has seen my work online & thought I’d suit the project they had. However once starting to work (this is a particular job I’m on atm), for a very big studio & broadcasting company, there’s so many art departments, corporate figure heads & also actors that all have to sign off on each illustration… I got great feedback from many, then other feedback such as my style is not consistent to the other artists on project… so I needed to adjust my style to suit this project, even though I was hired for my own style. Sorry this is really long winded…. What I’m trying to say I guess, is it’s not only being consistent in your own style & projects, it’s being able to change your style to be cohesive with the worlds, characters etc for projects your hired for. This job has been a big learning curve for me in many ways.

that sounds intense but like a really important learning experience! i agree, it can be a super valuable skill to search for your style and try to 'find' something that can be consistently carried out. i also think it's a good idea to cultivate skills and see where that takes you, career-wise. congrats on landing this current job you're doing!

Thank you, we have just finished & game is being released on the 28th…. I don’t think this will break NDA, as they have started email bombing for it…. The game is Dr Who - Worlds Apart, & it’s somehow incorporated into the NFT world (I’m not really sure how that works).. it is an existing game, but been given a whole new overhaul, all the arts been redone & updated along with the tech side. Hopefully I’ll get more work through them in the future 😊 How do you navigate through jobs with these big clients?
