I’m back from my vacation and it’s time to get back into the flow of drawing again! The whole DALL-E mini thing exploded while I was gone, and my sister was playing around with it this afternoon (mostly to generate hilarious images like the ones on this twitter account). She generated a bunch of things in “loish style” which gave me the idea to do a paintover of one of the results that came out of the generator! th It was a fun exercise for sure, although somehow I feel like the end result looks derivative of my own art, which is a weird thing to experience. Have you guys played around with this image generator yet?

By the way, here's some of the process for the image! I'll be editing the full process video and posting it here soon!

Beautiful ! The palette is insane !

Does it feel like a good starting portrait for a painting? With you process it must be hard to skip this initial gesture sketching and instead fixing someone else art.

Hope you had a good vacation! And I gotta say, I do not jive with that particular shade of red normally, but you made it look really pretty here, and I am confounded by it.

Lovely!

i do really like doing paint-overs, i've done a ton of them for my work in the game industry! i don't know if it's a good starting point for a painting, but it's definitely a good starting point for a rougher piece.

thanks! haha. i actually hate all the colors that dall-e mini generated. I tried to make it work! but lately I've been into softer color combos.

🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰✨I haven't tried it yet, but I will, soon I'll be up to date with my patreon exercises to share them in our facebook digital art group. I love your style, personally I don't think I struggle so much to copy a portrait and leave it realistic, but when I began to see your art styles I loved them and it is for me a great evolutionary step to follow and the results are always magnificent, and always charming. #stronwoman💛💜 #greatresult🧡🧡🧡🧡

Nice job turning this robot algorithm’s approximation of your work into the real thing! Although I’d love to also see your take on the middle or top right piece. 💚💙

Beautiful! I've seen this app floating around...the results are so horrifying LOL. But this was such a cool idea to work on! :) You seem to always kill it with the color palate. Oh and! I booked my travel and tickets for Lightbox, I'm so excited to meet you!!

Pretty cool idea to try! Thanks for sharing the process images- would be a cool thing to try!

This is awesome! I've been making a few dalle-mini prompts in your style myself the past couple days. The colors are always wonderful, and it's been making me think more about composition in my own art. :3

LOL! I was the one who did the rats in loish style dall-e on Twitter. It cracked me up how it instantly could pull from a database what sort of colors and composition you might use. Obviously it's a really sloppy approximation, but it's still fun! I've been wanting to do a paint-over of one of the rat paintings it pulled.

That is hilarious, made my day. Thank you

Loish

that one was funny! haha. i think it's an interesting tool to get some composition and color ideas, for sure. i think the more specific the style is, the better the results. otherwise things can get kinda blobby and weird haha!

Loish

yay, that's so exciting! i'll be booking my flight this week. can't wait!

I think your paintover is beautiful… I’m not sure what I think about these AI apps though. I’ve seen a lot of artists creating these images & then posting them & talking about how much work they put into them…. They are clearly Wombo or Dall E generated images. I wonder how this will affect work for artists… esp as these apps become more & more sophisticated. At the same time, I find it amazing that a computer can create art within these parameters… it’s a conundrum.

yeah it's definitely someting that sparks debate about the value of art. i feel like as technology develops, people tend to get better and better at identifying things that feel 'fake' or low effort and the desire for authenticity grows. i think these AI image generators will create a kind of aesthetic that people will grow wary of over time. i definitely understand that many artists feel apprehensive about it.

I agree, these images are very generic & repetitive… but they are also intriguing. The general fine arts worlds view on digital art has changed, in as little as the 5yrs I’ve been drawing…you now see digital included in many exhibitions & competitions that were against it back then. So with that in mind, it will be interesting to see where it goes.

I feel like the future of art and AI is going to be very similar to the current state of chess and AI. The most interesting things that come out of chess today is when humans use chess AI to explore the boundaries of what the game is. I think things like what you did above is a perfect example how AI should be used when exploring the boundaries of your abilities. AI will never "replace" the artist imo. Sure it will be able to make amazing things, even wildly creative and original things, but at the end of the day people who are into art always want to know the human at the end of that causal chain, their story, their reasoning, even if that human at the end is the just the person who coded the AI who's work they love so much. My 2 cents there. I might give this a go given the like 10k doodles I have uploaded, maybe I can see what AI thinks is my "style" :D

Loish

thanks for your insights! i agree with this, i think a big thing that people value about art is the way it gives insights into how other humans think and see the world. i don't think an AI can fully replace that!

Dall E you fail. Not even close 😂
