June is around the corner and the summer is about to begin! Usually I post this on the last day of the month, but I'll be travelling tomorrow, so I'm posting it up two days early. Here's a little review of how this month has gone for me:

SO MANY MERMAIDS

Because it was MerMay this month, most of my art consisted of mermaids! This is very much my comfort zone, but I found it quite challenging to make the mermaids look interesting and 3-dimensional. In the last two years, my artwork has gotten more detailed and complex and I’ve gravitated towards a more chunky style. Drawing these mermaids has been an interesting exercise in trying to bring that asethetic to my character art. It’s been really interesting to see how my style has changed and how I approach the same subject matter differently than I used to! ROUGH WORK

Almost everything I posted this month was rough work: sketches, messy digital paintings, and environment speedpaints. Even my tutorial was about creating rough work!  I’ve felt more drawn to more expressive brush strokes and messier art lately, and I’ve been wanting to push that in my art. I’ve got a few paintings I want to finish up, but I hope to keep some of that rough drawing energy in the final piece because I just love the energy it gives!

TAKING A LITTLE TRIP

For the first two weeks of June, I’ll be travelling through Italy with Arjen! I’m so excited to discover a new area of Europe - we usually go to the same spot in the south of France every year, but this year we wanted to see some new places. We’ll be in the dolomites and tuscany! You’ll still see Patreon posts coming up and I’ll be checking my messages whenever I get the time, so don’t hesitate to reach out during these weeks - I’ll do my best to get back to you whenever I can!
