We're already on the last day of January! Here's a little overview of how this month has gone for me:

SETTING NEW GOALS

It’s the start of a new year! In 2021, I finished off a lot of paintings that I had lying around for a while, and am starting this year with a clean slate. It is kind of daunting to start with nothing, and so I’ve been spending some time setting some goals for the kind of paintings I want to make. In 2021, I mostly took on new challenges by tackling them in my sketches and studies. This year I want to do more challenging paintings as well, featuring things like interiors, animals, visual effects like smoke and fire, and more lush and detailed settings. I already started on a few of these paintings and I’m excited to get to work on them in the coming months!

WORKING ON THE HOUSE

This month, I scaled down the amount of client work and other side projects I was doing, simply because the last few months were ridiculously busy and I needed a break. I’ve been giving myself more time to focus on other stuff. I’ve been living in my current home for almost 3 years now, but there were tons of things that still needed to happen that had been on the backburner since we moved here. So this month I’ve not only been creating art, but also working on finishing up my home! We’ve been painting walls, hanging up shelves and paintings, and generally picking up where we left off a while ago. It feels good to finally get started on these things again!

Here are some pictures of some things we did! Left is the dark blue wall color I added to my home office (still need to put the frames up), and right is the shelving system we had lying on the ground for literally over a year that is now on the wall where it should be:

We also finally put some lovely art by our friend Menah on the walls:

And we painted the downstairs bathroom wall dark green and put up a new mirror! Next step is adding some frames:

So far, 2022 has been a lot about getting momentum going! How has the year been for you so far?

As always, thanks so much for your support! I'll be sending out links to this month's google drive folder today. If you have any feedback or questions, please feel free to share them with me through a direct message or e-mail to loishh@gmail.com. Any and all feedback is welcome! I hope you’ll continue to be my patron and enjoy the content coming up next month! ❤

I love the changes you've done on your house. This year I am hoping to finish school (I started school again 20 years after I started my Master's degree the first time). My schooling isn't in Art, I don't know if I ultimately want to try to make any money with art, but I love to learn. I feel I am pretty good at making realistic art, but I want to learn to draw people and make more semi-realistic art this year. I have loved your tutorials so far, so I have bought a year of your patreon so I can continue to learn, in my free time after full time work, school, and taking care of my family. Art is what I do to decompress from all the other stuff I do with my life.

Klara Art

This month i just tried drawing for fun and create habit drawing every days. Tomorrow I want try Schoolism from Bobby Chui. I thinking about this few month and I think i really want to try it. And this year I really want just make art what I enjoy a to train styling drawing. And for my personal life I want find job and find therapist what I like and just enjoy life and the small moments 😊

Hi Lois, Love the dark blue and green accents on the walls! They add so much character to the room. It's great to see you taking time for yourself to make your space the way you want to! Would love to hear more about how it's going.. :) We are all here, as always! Take as much time as you need! Much Love, Lesha.

Loish

that's a great goal to set! i think art really thrives when you're drawing what you love or are genuinely interested in. i heard great things about schoolism also!

Loish

that's great! learning is something so motivating and refreshing, it's never too late to become a student again. Thanks so much for the support here on patreon!!

These blue and green for walls are just gorgeous. And I can totally relate with moving in some time ago and having a lot to finish. We moved into our new renovated apartment last November, and guess what - no frames were put up on the walls. Haha. I had all the walls painted white so I can do some of them in color. But I still didn't. I guess, I am stuck with color choices. Too many beautiful colors:D

Loish

haha i totally get that feeling! we loved our new, clean white walls and didn't want to tarnish them. i guess that's why it took us 2.5 years to finally put some stuff up!

Ok, but we're renovating later this year, and I **NEED** to know what those colours are. They are beautiful!

Loish

the green one has the color code 'PPG1144 7' and the blue one in my office has the color code 'S 7020 B30G'!

Thank you. Tucking those away for checking out when paint time comes!

np! what i found helpful was buying testers. some brands have little testers you can buy and for other brands you can just get a small pot of paint. being able to paint a small square on the wall and see for myself how it turned out helped me make my final choice!

Ooh your paint colour choices are very nice! My partner and I are trying to buy a house at the moment and painting walls is something I'm looking forward to being able to do. I'm also setting myself new art goals - I've never been very good at backgrounds and environments so I'm going to make an effort to learn.

Loish

that's a great goal! I'm also trying to tackle environments, specifically stuff that involves perspective and a sense of scale.
