My big sister lives in Edmonton, and she’s been seeing some beautiful sunsets there in the last weeks. She sent me some photos and I had to use them as reference for these quick speedpaints. My main focus was capturing that vivid, intense color! She recently sent over some gorgeous sunrise pictures with freshly fallen snow, so I might be tackling those too :) Have a great weekend everyone!

I’d like to know how you go about choosing colors… is it just color picking until you get the right thing? Do you have a color filter on? Do you go by eye?

Loish

i definitely go by eye! i don't pick colors or use filters. i just eyeball it and tweak the colors til they feel right.

Is this Edmonton, Alberta, Canada? I live a few hours from there (Calgary)! We definitely get some beautiful skies here in Alberta. So cool to see you capture them so vividly!

Beautiful!! (I'm from Canmore!) We get some really incredible skies here, especially in the morning. Next time you're in Alberta drop by the mountains! Jasper, Banff, Canmore :D

I love these images! I was wanting to draw a picture of my house in kind of a cartoony style, but I can’t get over the need to have perfect lines. When I do urban sketching. I do the sketch with I k and purposely dot worry about straight lines. Being on digital, I feel like I HAVE to do it perfect because I CAN make straight lines. Any ideas on how to get past that? I can’t seem to stop myself from holding down my pen to do the straight line. And I can’t get over that it needs to be perfect cause it’s my house.

Loish

hey reelyn! that sounds frustrating! i think the only way to get past it is to somehow let go of the perfectionism. maybe practice on a few other outdoor settings first to build confidence, before tackling your own house?
