I always love October because it's prime autumn season, but there's some exciting stuff coming up as well. I'm getting on the plane for the first time since February 2020 to take a short city trip with my mom, and on October 11th, it's my birthday - and also the launch date for my new artbook kickstarter! I'm really looking forward to this month :)

Here's a little overview of how September went for me:

BOOK DEADLINE

I’ve been working on my third artbook since the beginning of this year, and have been brainstorming different ideas and approaches for it since 2018! It’s been such a long project in the making, and reaching the deadline for the book content felt like a huge relief. I feel like finishing this project freed up some space in my mind. My art was kind of a random mix of different things this month and that has a lot to do with the fact that I’m just following whatever impulse I feel like drawing on that day, which is something I haven’t done in a while! There’s still a lot of work to do for the book still, but I’m done making artwork for it, which feels like a clean slate.

TRADITIONAL ART TUTORIAL

This was my first time making a traditional art tutorial! That always feels slightly out of my comfort zone as a digital artist, but it felt really great to do. I feel like the end result was a bit more spontaneous and authentic than some of my more instructive digital art tutorials. I want to do more traditional art tutorials in the future, so if there’s any specific struggles you have with traditional art, let me know! Any ideas are welcome!

As always, thanks so much for your support! I'll be sending out links to this month's google drive folder today. If you have any feedback or questions, please feel free to share them with me through a direct message or e-mail to loishh@gmail.com. Any and all feedback is welcome! I hope you’ll continue to be my patron and enjoy the content coming up next month! ❤

Hi Loish, thanks for another great month of art! I had a suggestion for a traditional/digital tutorial topic... I really stuggle with digital linework and from your videos it sounds like you spent a lot of time thinking about how you approach it too. I noticed recently when I did a few more traditional works myself that actually my traditional linework is not as bad as digital, I think i just get a better feel for the material I'm using or something? I can't seem to convey that digitally. I wondered if you had any thoughts on that? :)

Congrats on the book! Excited for the Kickstarter. Are you doing Inktober/Artober (or any variant thereof) this year?

Loish

i'm not participating in any challenge this year! it's just been such a busy time for me, i muscled my way through the entire pandemic by working a lot, and putting together the book took a lot out of me! i will probably paint / ink at some point during this month, but i don't want to put too much pressure on myself this year :)

Loish

hey ashleigh! thanks so much for your support :) i get your struggle, making digital lineart is exhausting to me as well. at some point i just started drawing my lines with pencil, scanning them in, and using that as lineart. drawing lines with pencil or pen just feels a lot more natural to me so i avoid doing that with digital media. you're not alone in that!

Congratulations!! Very exciting. Where do I find your instructional tutorials? I’d love both digital and traditional.
