Here’s the process for an older piece! I got a message in my DM’s asking for the steps of this one and I figured I would just make a post out of it.

The first step was a scanned sketch from my sketchbook, and if you’re curious, you can watch the tour for that sketchbook here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/sketchbook-tour-34974271

I then took it into photoshop to add color, which I did by painting some colors on a multiply layer, and also modifying the colors of the scanned sketch to a pinkish color. By the third step, I had merged it all together and started painting over the whole thing. This process is pretty much the ‘sculpting with color’ workflow that I talk about in my latest tutorial (https://www.patreon.com/posts/tutorial-with-53897099) - sketch, rough color, change the sketch color, and then merge it all and start painting from there.

This process is also a pretty good example of how I sometimes change things late in the process. On the 5th image, you can see that I moved her head up and made it smaller, which changed the proportions completely. I did this by just selecting the head area with the lasso tool, copy/pasting it on a new layer, and then moving/resizing it until it looked right. After that, I just painted over any messy edges until it was blended in to the painting.

I did some of the rendering for this one on the iPad in Procreate, mainly because I was travelling and it was more convenient. I still have the process video, but the annoying thing is that you don’t see a lot happening most of the time because I was zoomed in and just polishing up tiny details. In that sense, a screen recording says a lot more about the process, since it shows that I’m zoomed in. If you want to watch it anyways, you can find it here: https://vimeo.com/586224283/014ef47cfd

If any of you are interested in seeing the process of an older piece, let me know! You can comment below or send a DM. I’m always happy to share my process :)

I think you said in your choosing colours tutorial that you really like blue and pink? At one stage at least? Honestly the way you use combinations like that is so mind blowing to me because the end result is so sophisticated and beautiful and, for me at least, combinations like blue and pink have always had a slightly candy store, childish feel to me. This though, this is absolutely stunning and make me want to play with that colour combinations myself 💙💖💙💖

thank you! yes, I LOVE blue and pink. I often end up gravitating towards it in my art, just because I love how bright and candy-like it is, but they still feel nicely in balance with one another and aren't too loud.

Well, the way you paint those colours, they definitely aren't too loud! 🤗

This looks great. Will definitely watch it later. Do you record the process for all your paintings? Edit: dumb brain thought this is a video. Still super cool though!

there is a video linked in the description! I record the process for a lot of my paintings, but not all of them. sometimes I feel the need to paint more freely and not have the feeling that I'm being 'watched' haha :')
